DS had his 4 month shots yesterday and they went over well.
BUT I've been having some supply issues and have started supplementing for a week now. I asked the PHN what I could do to up my supply. She basically said, quit with the formula, feed him every hour for 2 days, and take Domperidone. There are soo many things wrong with this is my eyes.
1) I'm supposed to starve my child b/c I have no milk until an hour passes. He throws a fit as it when I'm empty.
2) Domperidone is not a good idea. I work in healthcare and the doctor I work for is always cautious about prescribing Domperidone in general. Plus, look it up and you'll see why I'd be concerned.
I mentioned to her some natural methods. She basically goes, "if you believe that crap." She said that I'm too hard on myself. So now I'm lost as to what to do. I know I can be hard on myself but it's a kick to the gut when a friggen health nurse who specializes in infant care basically craps on me for supplementing. The PHN I usually see is on holidays and my doc is also away.
What DH and I have decided is try Fenugreek, milk tea etc. (once we get to the city to buy some which won't be until the end of net week). But in the meantime I'll still supplement wth formula. DS only gets about 17 oz of formula per day while the rest (about 23 oz) is BM. WDYT?
My qustions right now are: Still I do continue the Vitamin D drops? and DS can take a while to tank a 4 oz bottle. Should I up the nipple size or stay at slow b/c I'm still nursing??? Any suggestions, are greatly appreciated.
TIA
EDIT: I should add that DS is doing well at 16lbs 1 oz and 26 inches long.
Re: Supplementing moms. (long)
If you want to exclusively BF then supplementing is a bad idea. If you don't want to do the domperdione then don't but feeding every hour for two days sounds good. here is an article on Kellymom about increasing supply. I hope this helps. GL
