People can flame me if they want... but I have to say this. My mom licenses daycares for the state... she sees good centers and bad centers so that is where I am basing this from. I would NEVER send my child to a daycare that said I could not drop in when I wanted to. You are paying them so you should be able to see what they are doing when they are not expecting you. Prime example... the office where my mother works got a complaint not long ago, when they went out to check out the situation there were 5 BABIES SLEEPING IN THE FURNACE ROOM! You just never know what happens when you are not around and if they don't want you there that is a RED FLAG!
Re: Daycare f/u...
I'm not going to flame you. Even if your not paying them, if your child is there you should be allowed to go in.
If the center doesn't want you upsetting the child (not by visiting but by leaving) they should have a way for you to observe your child without disrupting them.

Life is beautiful!
I couldn't agree more! I worked at a very well known, established day care that had great reviews all through college. The did some shaddy stuff when no one was looking...i.e.: giving the toddlers that didn't nap well tylenol so they would, even though they weren't sick!
I tell all my friends and clients (I work with low-income moms) to not even call beforehand. To just show up at a daycare. That is the only way you will get 'close' to the real picture of what the daycare is like.
