For all of you that use cloth diapers...How do you like it? How many did you start out with for a newborn? I used/use disposible for my other 2 but I thought I would look more into it this time. Tell me you thoughts! TIA
I think pretty much all of us here will tell you that we love cloth diapering! I didn't use cloth with my 14 month old when he was a newborn (we started when he was 2-3 months old), and for this baby I'll be using a lot of flat diapers, which also fit my older child so my personal number of diapers isn't very 'accurate" for just a newborn. BUT, if I only had one newborn and diapers and no other baby, I would get 36 diapers and 6 covers, or around that Lots of people love prefolds for the newborn stage. Like I said, I'm partial to flats but a lot of people don't like folding them. I don't mind, though. I'm also going to get some newborn fitteds, too.
I hope that all made sense! If you hang around a while, you will learn a lot. If you have any specific questions, let us know
My DS got terrible diaper rash when he was a newborn. My mom kept saying we better switch to cloth and I looked at her like she had two heads. I thought it was the dumbest grossest thing I'd ever heard. Then as DS got older, I started becoming more "green" with cleaners and toys and stuff and came to this board. I reazlied that cloth diapering wasn't just prefolds anymore and I saw how cute they were and got hooked. I decided we were going to CD our DD when she got here, but I ended up getting to excited and started CDing DS as well at 18 months. I will admit that at that stage it was a little hard since his poos were pretty darn gross, but they are helping him potty train faster IMO. But I still wasn't fully convinced I liked it.
Now that DD is here, I can say for sure I LOVE Cding her. Not only have we not had any problem (up until now since she was in sposies on vacation) with rashes, but I also know we are saving a ton of money and doing good for the environment. Plus, they are adorable!

LOVE it! Wouldn't use anything else. Started from newborn stage [after umbilical cord came off.]
Used some fitteds that a friend made, then transitioned into one sized Bum Genius and Happy Heineys. Started out with 36 diapers.
