Anyone NOT using bumpers in the crib?

Hi all,

I'm just curious if anyone is opting to skip bumpers all together in the cribs. If you aren't, could you let me know how it's been going for you?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone NOT using bumpers in the crib?

  • No bumpers here. I bought some breathable bumpers but the way our crib is made (solid ends and slatted sides) they don't work. Honestly, the mattress is so big compared to her body that if I put her in the middle I feel like she could never get to the sides anyway. And she's too little to roll, so the bumpers would have been worthless at this point.

  • I started off using a bumper. But then I realized I had to untie the entire thing just to change the sheet, which needed to be cleaned at least once a week. I concluded that that was just too much work. So I took off the bumper entirely - which I feel bad about because my sister sewed it for me. But I actually like it off, because I can see DD better now in her crib with it off when I just peak through the crack in the door. She hasn't gotten herself caught in any weird positions inbetween the bars yet - so.. so far so good.
  • I'm not using a bumper. If rolling becomes an issue we will buy a sleep positioner! Like the pp the breathable bumpers wont work with the way our crib is shaped (slats)!
  • No bumpers for us, but she's only in the crib during the day for naps thus far (in arms reach mini co-sleeper at night).  I'm not fearing any major issues down the road though re: bumper.
  • We bought a cute set that included bumpers and had them on the bed for the first 2 months...it just became a pain to have them on when we would have to change the sheet so after awhile they never went back on.  I would say if you have the money for cuteness get them--they really complete the crib but if you are looking to save, skip them.

  • we just got a breathable one (and according to the directions, it will work with the cribs you guys are describing).  DD is a roller and mover and after finding arms and legs stucking out every day for a week, I decided it was time

  • They are currently sleeping in PNPs because DH is the director of a summer camp so we are living up here with him... but when we get home we will be getting the breathable ones... when we were home and I would set them in their to nap while I showered I would constantly come back to one of them with legs sticking out.

  • we arent putting the bumper in until he is first birthday.  we havent had any issues yet
  • We purchased a bedding set and hardly use any of it except the crib skirt and sheets. We took the bumper out as LO moves a ton when he sleeps and we were worried that he would be unable to roll away from it.  Buy half a dozen nice sheets and you will be set!  Also having a bassinet in our room was a lifesaver. LO will eventually transition to sleeping exclusively in his crib but for now just naps in his crib and sleeps in our room in his bassinet.

  • we dont even own bumpers for our crib, SIDS issue mostly, also b/c we didnt get a bedding set (I didnt like any of the trained themed ones i could find, so instead we opted for buying seperate sheets and my mom sewed curtains and a quilt), though I have been looking into breathable bumpers b/c we have a smaller crib and I can see that being an issue when he can move more and get stuck btw the rails.
  • we have breathable bumpers on all 3 cribs.  They help keep limbs in, and more importantly with my oldest- they keep his pacis in the crib :)
  • oh, and PSA- Breathable bumpers DO work on cribs with a solid end- go to the breathable bumper website and click on the directions link- it tells you how to put them up with both types of cribs.
  • We are not using any yet. She does move around a lot and I sometimes find her laying sideways with her feet near the bars but no problems yet!
