uncomfortable postpartum (TMI?)

I just had my son last Saturday and had a small tear and episiotomy on the inside. I figured I'd become less sore and uncomfortable with each day, but instead I feel more sore down there. I feel stinging if I am even a little late taking my pain meds (just Motrin and Tylenol). Shouldn't this be getting better by now? Did anyone have the same experience and should I just call OB? (am using Dermaplast, Tucks, and peri-bottle)

Re: uncomfortable postpartum (TMI?)

  • I had a third degree tear and I am still sore. It has gotten alot better then it was, but still sore. I think I stopped taking Motrin by three weeks.

  • I'm still sore. It hurts less than before, but is definitely taking a while to heal. I had a third degree tear.
  • When I was 5 days out, I was thinking the same thing, because it felt like it was worse.  It slowly got better after that.  Keep using that peri-bottle and you should start feeling better soon.
  • That happened to me also. I didn't use my epifoam until one week out.
  • I was more sore and stingy at 2 weeks PP than I was the day after the birth
  • I was sore for about 5 weeks.

  • I was sore for about 3 weeks, the more you can rest the quicker you'll get better
  • ok, good to know (well not good, but at least it's normal!) Thanks ladies!
  • I had a 3rd degree tear and it took me about 2 weeks to feel a lot better down there.  I'm still tender though.  Don't sit on it, lay down when possible, but get up and move around as much as possible, I can't emphasize that enough...and fill a diaper a couple times a day with water and freeze it and use it as a pad instead.  That really relieved the pain and helped my healing process.
  • i gave up the epifoam and tucks for my hemorrhoids after week 1 b/c they werent getting any better, so i went and got some preparation h cooling gel...it rocked!!!  once the hemorrhoids felt better, everything else did too.
  • At one week post partum I was still using the ice pack pads from the hospital along with Motrin. As for the stinging, I only had that when I peed but using the peri bottle as well as squatting above the toilet really helped.

If you are still uncomfortable with all of these modifications you should call your doctor. Not to scare you but the doc who delivered LO botched my stitches. I thought the aches and pains I was experiencing were par for the course only to have my doc discover at my 6 week appointment that something was wrong. When in doubt call your doc!
