How do women go through this hell?

ok, I'm 38 and only NOW do I get a regular period. I have PCOS and I maybe got three periods a year until after I gave birth (Sam was IVF). Now I am right on time...yipee.

holy freaking moley, my back hurts, like really, really hurts! I'm swollen, and the fatigue is knocking me on my ass. I tried to go for a run and I really thought about calling DH to come and pick me up. It was NEVER like this before.

Midol? does that even work? is there something better? drug recs, please, nothing homeopathic!

  • lol, I know I have a pituitary tumor and I got one period or so a year until I had dd, now I have one every month.  Lovely and I'll have it while I'm at Disney this year.  Splendid!

  • I always took Aleve for menstrual cramps and backaches.  The sooner after my period start that I took it, the better.  Midol never did a thing for me.

  • I've only had two periods since Nov. 2006 so maybe my memory is fuzzy but I never had really bad PMS. Advil always helped me with backaches or cramps when I had them.

  • My post-partum-periods have been atrocious.  Like, atrocious in every way possible.  I am a fan of Midol, because of the caffeine, but if your back is aching, definitely take Aleve.

I also use my heating pad during day one...ugh.  I'll have mine next week, unless my running has suppressed it (which has been hit or miss, lately; I keep the pregnancy test industry alive).

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE the Therma Care Heat Wraps. They have a sticky backing and you can place them wherever you need them most. Absolutely the only way to go.
  • Muscle relaxers and pain killers are the only things that work for me these days.  Dh refers to me as "Trash" (instead of Trish) when AF is arriving because I'm so irritable.  For once, it would be nice if the males endured the cramps and hormonal changes.  We can only dream....
  • Thanks! Aleve and chocolate covered plums did the trick. AHHHHH. I may get those heat wraps tomorrow.
  • Midol=expensive ibuprofen and acetaminophen.  So, I just take 600 mg of Motrin every six hours and Darvocet as needed (my cramps can be pretty unbearable when I have an ovarian cyst).
