Infertility

IVF costs (OOP)

Hey girls,

My RE is suggesting that we start looking into IVF.  This is the breakdown they gave us.  Does this seems about right or should I "shop around"? Anything else I am missing? Thanks for all of your help!!

Meds ~3000 (depending on response)

Clinic~6000 (this includes anesthesia, ER, ET)

RE~ 2000 (monitoring and blood work)

Total of about $10,000-12,000

Re: IVF costs (OOP)

  • That seems very low to me actually.

The two other expenses to keep in mind: ICSI and freezing of embryos.  Both can be 1-3k depending on your clinic.

  • I think that sounds about right.  However, if you respond well, you won't spend that much on meds.  I was prepared to pay 3000 for my first ivf (because thats what it says on my REs website), but because I was a great responder with clomid they didn't order too much.  I ended up only paying like 1200 that cycle (for meds).  It was great!  I can't comment on the other stuff because I'm shared risk.  But, I do think it looks similar to a single cycle at my clinic.
  • I've never done IVF but from what I've read and rereachered it can cast anywhere from 10-15 thousand dollars a try.

  • My clinic costs 12-15,000 per cycle so that sounds like a good deal to me.
  • My clinic is 10850 for a cycle of IVF, including ICSI and assisted hatching if needed, but not including meds. They estimated it around 2K for meds for me.

Of  that cost, about half of it is all the labwork and anesthesia, and the other half is the procedures and monitoring itself.

I had insurance for the drugs, so I can't help you there.

My clinic is 5,500 for the first attempt, 4.500 for the second, 3,500 for the 3rd and there after. That only includes the acutal IVF procedure. Monitoring and b/w are extra.  They are the most reasonable I have ever seen.  They are the best upstate NY has to offer, but if you go down to NYC, I think a cycle at NYU would run you about 12 grand, but their success rates are also better.

  • yup.  we paid around $9,000 for our ivf cycles including meds.  i'd say that you are right on target.  sometimes, you can get meds donated, so you'll save money that way too.

  • I just made a payment today! Our Manhattan clinic offers an "introductory price" of $6,750/cycle, plus $375 for anesthesia. The price includes $2000 for ICSI which they refund in case you don't need it. U/s and b/w is extra, but for me, at least this part is somewhat covered. We had to shell out a whooping $4, 600 on meds...Ick!

  • Mine will be $13,200 including meds and ICSI.
  • Thanks so much girls!!

  • seems super cheap to me! that is great!

My first IVF was about 18k, my second and successful IVF was closer to 30k!

Here is the breakdown for the second:

RE (blood, monitoring, basic labs) 9500

meds: I stimmed heavy for 13 days, this was 14000.... that hurt! we expected a bit more than IVF#1, which was 5000, but yikes!)

Extra lab fees (AH, extended culture etc) 3000
