How much do you spend on baby shower gift?

I am going to a good friends baby shower this weekend and just wondering what the average amount people spend on a baby shower?? It seems like some of the other girls that are going spent a lot of money and I dont want to look cheap.. is $50 enough?

I think $50 is MORE than generous. I usually only do $30 max but today I spent $50 on a shower gift. I know the girl well and I wanted to do her a goodie basket and it all added up quickly.

depends on who its for. my best friend i spent over 200 and for my sil i spent 50 - which i my usual gift amount

thats exactly what I am doing too!! It does add up quick! Some of the other girls that are going spent $100-$150!! I just cant afford that.. but I am feeling kind of cheap. Thanks for making me feel better about that!

I usually spend $50 unless it is someone extremely close (like a sister, best friend), then I would get a big ticket item.

Not cheap at all. I felt bad for spending that much. Especially when I could have spent it on my own child LOL.

I usually spend around $50, unless it is someone I really don't know well.

For me it's more about what I want to give them, if they need the help, and how close we are. But it's usually $30-50.

Not cheap at all. I felt bad for spending that much. Especially when I could have spent it on my own child LOL.

Exactly!! I could buy a lot of things we really could use for DS for $50! lol! Glad I am not alone in feeling this way!

i usually spend 30-75 bucks depending on my relationship with the person. if it were one of my SILs i would get a big ticket item

I usually spend $50. But some people I end up spend more later, e.g. when baby is born or there's a bris or baptism, etc.

Boy, do I feel like a cheapskate after reading all of pp's amounts! I usually do $20-30 or go in with someone else on a $50ish gift (same for baby showers, wedding showers, weddings).
