Can't see the babies :(

After my cerclage procedure in June I developed C-Diff from the antibiotics. I ended up hospitalized for 8 days with it. I was on the medicine to treat it for a long time, but 10 days ago I went off it. Guess what came back on Saturday? :( My MFM had me go to the ER yesterday for fluids and a GI consult and got me back on the meds. Luckily I caught it right away and I'm starting to feel better already, but I can't see the babies until my symptoms are gone. It's killing me, especially since today is their 1 month birthday. I baked cupcakes for the nurses and a little cake for the head doctor and his team. DH in the NICU now. But I miss my babies so much!

Re: Can't see the babies :(

  • I'm sorry you can't see them today. This month has gone by so fast! It was so sweet of you to bake for the NICU staff.

  • you poor thing.. that's awful. :(
  • I hope you feel better soon!

I know how hard that is.  I got a sinus infection two times in a row so I couldn't see my daughter for about 10 days.  It was awful.  The good thing is that your little ones won't remember :)

  • I had c.diff for 22 weeks - it came back twice. The first time I had caught was after my c/s after I need a transfusion. I was very sick - basically just hemorraging from my colon. Nothing they gave me was helping -- they just kept coming in my room and pouring Vanco down my throat and my white cell count kept increasing. The last 10 days I was in the hospital was b/c of c.diff (total of 2 weeks).

Like I said, I had it for 22 weeks and I never gave it to Marino or my husband, who was sharing a bathroom with me. You need to see the charge nurse and possibly get a letter from a infectious disease doctor that there is no reason not to see your babies as long as you don't have a fever (mine always starts with a fever until a few days of the medicine). If that was the case for me, I wouldn't have seen Marino until he was 6 months old! Good hand washing is key!!

If you want to talk about c.diff more, please email me (queenbb@hotmail.com). My doctor had to keep me on Vanco for 6 weeks the last time and then do a "chaser" of a second antibiotic to get rid of it. I also take a daily probiotic (I take Align but there are better ones if you can tolerate lactose) - my doctor told me to take the probiotic forever, basically. I've been c.diff free since December but my colon still isn't as strong as before, so I still have some issues.

I hope you feel better soon.

  • That's the worst! I had to have a kidney biopsy when Max was about that same age, and they transferred me to a hospital 50 miles away and I was stuck there for several days! At least DH can go see them and let them know you *want* to be there!

    I'm glad you're feeling better!

  • I'm sorry you can't see your babies. I've got a cold right now and can't go see my son either. It sucks so bad, I feel like I am a horrible mom.

  • I wasn't sure if I made sense in my previous post (I was typing fast), but I had c.diff while Marino was in the NICU and I still saw him every day after my fever broke. They made me be gowned and gloved but later they decided that really wasn't necessary. The real issue was that there is still a lot of mystery about c.diff and a lot of the nurses don't understand it.

Please send me an email so we can talk about it more, ok?

  • Wow, you are really the most amazing couple of people.  And clearly you are an awesome mom because you're already sending cupcakes to school for their birthday!  LOL!  Hang in there, this is so difficult but this to shall pass.
  • Brooke, I have been following your blog----you are a great momma. Hang in there.....

  • I feel like crying for you, I have been following your blog and you guys have been through so much. I also know how important Lily's 1 month birthday was to me and I can't imagine how hard it is not to be able to see them. I will say a prayer for you tonight - GL (((HUGS)))
