We were selected to adopt the little boy we've been doing respite for over the last 2 1/2 months!!!!! 5 years after beginning our journey for children, we're getting to adopt a child!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
lilfish - we had 3 options on how to do it. immediate adoption placement, wait until he had a specific doctor's appointment or he could be a foster placement with us for 6 months to qualify for the adoption subsidy. we chose the foster with intent to adopt (6 month placement) so that he could qualify for the subsidy. he's considered a "moderate level" of care and is delayed quite a bit (no speech other than "yeah" and "no"), so he *may* require years of therapy. the agency and caseworker supervisor gave us the advice to go with that choice. we would have done immediate adoption placement! in fact, i went and picked him up and he's staying with us for the weekend. he should be placed with us by the 24th!
