Rectal temp

Have you had to do this to LO yet? If so how bad was it? I am a nervous wreck about doing it when I get home from work but her stool has been runny and according to ear and underarm she is not running a fever but the pedi said I needed to check rectal and then go from there. Sorry but just wondering how your LO handled it. TIA

    Most babies couldn't care less that you're sticking a little probe in their tushie. She'll probably poop afterwards, so keep that diaper handy. Just use a good amount of lube, stick the probe in a little bit (like an inch or less), and pray that your thermometer is a fast reader. My son was warm a few weeks ago but acting okay, and when I checked his rectal temp he giggled at me the whole time. Don't worry - if you're freaking out, she'll sense your anxiety and probably freak too. It will go fine!

    Its not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be.  DD doesnt even know its there!  Once, she farted and blew the thermometer out lol  Needless to say, we had to start over.  Its more traumatizing for me than it was for her.

    She won't even notice it, but I would have a blanket underneath just in case it moves the bowels more.
