3rd Trimester

Name Advice

I'm asking you guys here because...well I like you guys in third tri lol..

I first have to say I have massive OCD so please forgive, in advance, the long winded reasoning in this post.

We have decided our bub will definitely be Tristan.

Now all of my other children have overlapping Initials. Fisrt born is L, second is J and third is J L.

Our original Name for baby 4 was going to have three middle names to link him with his siblings, but its a mouthful. I know you don't often use middle names though so we originally picked

Tristan Jacob Jasper London

Now the past two weeks or so I've fallen in love with Tristan River. This name also has significance to the town his daddy was raised in (Initials match as well)

So  which do you like more? And If we went with the name to link the siblings, the multiple names shouldn't matter too much right?

Thanks in advance ladies :)

  • Ack, Ok how did I confuse ya? I have a habit of typing without thinking lol.
  • I'm not a fan of the multiple middle names.  But I'm also not huge on River.  I don't mind Jacob or Jasper for the middle name though (only one!).

  • Sorry girls lol. Im just torn between using the three middle names so that all my kids initials match up or using the one to match Daddy.

My thoughts exactly.  I got lost at the overlapping initials part. Tongue Tied

  • Hmm I think it's a little mean to give a child 3 middle names - that means he will have 5 names!! Also, I'm very confused & you just explained it to me, so imagine how confusing it'll be his entire life...personally I like Tristen River, but I'd leave it at that. I don't know why they all have to be named after each other.

  • I personally like Tristan River, but either way you're fine.  I'm one of four.  Three siblings have K names, one sibling is an S.  "S" is always joking about the fact that she feels left out of the family....not only is she the only non-K, but she's the "middle" child too because I am a twin and first born and evidently we could as only one person.

The last K to be born also has an unfortunate story because she was named after my brother's crush in second grade.  My parents couldn't come up with a name so they let us name her.

Bottom line is that no matter what you do, or how equitable you try to do things, someone's going to gripe about something sometime.    Despite all of us having "squabbles" with our names or how we're lumped together, it's all in good fun and know we have loving, caring parents and siblings.

  • I know he'd have 5 names but in the span of your lifetime how often do you actually ever use a middle name. I figure for any type of documents you are usually asked your middle initial.

They don't HAVE to be named after eachother but since I did it with my other three it just feels odd to not do it with this last baby too. Feels sort of like he'd be the outcast. (told you in advance I have OCD lol)

I was also struggling because there are NO decent nicknames for Tristan and while I do usually call my children by their full first names, I heard my mother refer to him as "Tris" and "Trissy" and damn near gagged lol. SO I was looking for middle names that would give me nick name options as well.

  • Tristan Jacob Jasper London makes me say that Shel Silverstein poem Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout in my head. I don't care for that at all, and I don't get what you mean about linking siblings.

Tristan River is nms but if you like it and it has meaning to your family, then go for it!

  • I like Tristan River.  It's unique.

  • Jacob Jasper makes me think of John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.

Not a fan of all those names, I'd stick with Tristan Jacob or Tristan River - nickmanes TJ or TR, so there's no more "Trissy" because that would NOT fly in my book!

  • He may end up getting beat up a lot.  Especially if he has 3 middle names, or if one middle name is River.

  • Tristan River.

Not to flame you, but it's called a middle name not names.  If it was a girl she'd sound like a serial divorced person that kept every married name for a middle name.  Why would you do that to your child?  It screams I am not capable of making a decision.

If you wanted to over lap you could do Tristin and an L middle name.  That way the second child overlapped via middle iniital with the first and the third would over lap with the second.

With that being said, it's your child and I respect whatever choice you make.

This! 3 middle names would be awful and I don't care for River either.
