Hi ? I posted this Q on the 12-24 mo board but haven?t gotten any replies. Do any of you have plans to have your DCs sleep in a trundle bed? We already have a twin trundle bed similar to this https://tinyurl.com/mbx7dx.

We purchased it in 2004 for guests when we had a teeny tiny guest room. We are hoping it will work for DD to sleep in when we transition her to her big girl bed. She's 18 months and approaching 35 inches tall. She will likely be ready to leave her crib in a few months. At least we hope so b/c her little sister arrives in December and we hope that by 22 months she can sleep in this bed. We're going to try to have her start taking naps in this bed in September/October so that she doesn't feel ousted from her crib by the new baby.

Any stories of transitioning to a bed like this will be really helpful. We're thinking of having her sleep in the bottom drawer b/c it's so low to the ground but I'm pretty sure we couldn't put guard rails on the bottom drawer. It?s probably also possible to have her sleep on top and leave the bottom drawer pulled out so that if she rolled off the top bed that she would land on a soft mattress. (Although, not sure if that is necessary because we could probably use bed rails on the top bed). Suggestions? Thoughts?  TIA!

btw - in the above link there is a note at the bottom says not suitable for kids under 3 years. We have a different bed, but it is similar to this. Does anyone know why? I tried googling the answer and came up empty. We might have to find a different bed solution for her. crap!

  • Not sure why the gobbeldy gook appears at the top - probably from when I c&p'd from the 24mo+ board. sorry!

  • We haven't yet but plan to.  I think they say it's not for little kids because it may be higher than a normal twin, or they have had kids try to push the trundle in by themselves and squish a finger and the parents freaked out.

Not sure what your trundle looks like but their are some bed rails that fit right under the mattress for support, so basically if there isn't anything across the front of the trundle you would be fine.  I think that trying to transtion with the lower trundle out would be great because (if you think she's up to it) it will help her get used to staying in bed more quickly. Amoung people I know it seems that in general their kid fell out the first 2-3 nights and most of them stayed asleep.  (would never happend for my little guy, he'd scream bloody murder if he hit the floor)
