3rd Trimester

In regards to fear of c-sections..

I know everyone recovers differently but, my recovery was easy! The first 3 weeks were awful but after that I was up and at 'em.

I also saw someone worry about the scar, mine is smaller than a dollar bill. It looks great and is down low so you couldn't see it unless I was in the buff. Well, I guess it depends on what kind of swim suits you wear!

I guess what I am trying to say is that, I asked for mine and had no regrets. I was in cervidil/pitocin induced labor without an epi for 14 hours (didn't progress far enough for one) and when the Dr. offered to restart the induction process a few days later, I came up out of the bed and told him he was doing a c-section.

  • My mom said she was fine within a week...I think she's pretty tough though!

  • A dollar bill is pretty huge, no?  Glad your recovery went fairly well.  My friends that have had c-sections had great recoveries as well.
  • Wow.  I really wasn't that scared of one before but now I am.

  • IDK, I had fantastic insurance.

I had 4 hospital stays, a 3 week hospital bedrest, and only paid a grand.

  • I am scared of having a c-section.  But I know that if I need one and my doc recommends it then I'm sure I won't even think twice about getting one.

I'm sure the recovery process has something to do with your age, your physical fitness/health etc.  I don't think I would have a hard time recovering I would just be disappointed because I really want a vag. birth.

  • I don't know...up and at em within 3 weeks?!  After my vaginal delivery with DD#1, I felt better within 1 week, so now you're scaring me!  I just hope I don't have to have a c-section.
  • Im with you! I have just had a c-section & my recovery has been great. I went to the toilet on my own the night of the surgery, showered myself the next morning & was able to pick up my LO within a few days. My scar is tiny & I was discharged from hospital after 4 days. I was terrified before I went down to?theatre?because I had heard all the horror stories about c-sections but from what I could see on the ward I had a faster recovery than the VB Mums.
  • I also had a very easy recovery with my first c-section.  I was totally off pain meds two days after I came home from the hospital.  I couldn't run any marathons or anything, but I could take care of my daughter just fine.  While my scar is still a little raised, it is so low that no one would ever see it except my husband.  No days were ever "awful" for me.  I'm hoping this one will be as easy!

I had zero pain after 3 weeks and quit walking hunched over, I could also get in and out of bed alone.

People make it seem like you have to recover for months.

  • Glad things worked out for you, but c-sections are major surgery and it is the last thing on Earth I'd voluntarily submit myself or baby to. Everyone's recovery is different. I also have a 4 yr old at home and 3 weeks of recovery would be too long for me.
  • I had a great recovery too. ?I was up and around before leaving the hospital. ?I stayed on the pain meds for a couple of days after, but I had an episiotomy too and honestly that hurt A LOT more. ?My c-section scar (4 years later) is completely unnoticable and so far down that noone would ever see it. ?

There are moms I know who thought a c-section was awful and moms who would dive into another c-section no questions asked (like me). ?It all depends on the person. ?You do what you have to do.?

Ditto- only I have a 3 yr old, not 4 yr old.

But I DO understand the circumstances under which you asked for one. Sort of like how I asked for that epi that I thought I'd try to manage without! LOL

I get it. And it's always awesome when a c-section or an induction goes well even though it (obviously) may not have been the original preference.

I loved my experience with a vaginal delivery and I guess I just want it again. And I'm terrifed of a c-section... but of course when the time comes, I'll do whatever it takes to get the baby here safely!

  • I just want to add that c-sections do not affect bonding for those who stated this earlier. I understand that it can be frightening for some who wanted a natural delivery, but dont feed into this "i wont bond with my baby" crap that some people will try to make you feel
  • I had a c/s on july 21st...i had an epi and that was fine. I had no pain meds and was able to get up after 24 hours (I was given magnesium and had to be on bed rest for 24 hours...this was b/c of preeclampsia, not the c/s)

it is now 9 days later and I am fine. just feels like AF cramps- still no pain meds either.

    C/S was fine, no biggie.

Very true! I got to see my daughter straight away, my husband got to cut the cord & she was put onto my chest & we had skin to skin contact right there in the operating theatre, I was even able to start?breast-feeding?her in recovery. The only difference is how she came out. Maybe its different here in Australia? I don't understand the hysteria :(

I think the?biggest?obstacle?to bonding after a c-section is people telling you that it will interfere with bonding.

  • My recovery was pretty good too.  I had him on a Monday and was up and down the basement stairs doing laundry by Friday when I got home because I didn't have anyone to help out during the day really.  Besides an infection I got after the fact, it wasn't too bad.  Once I got on the antibiotics, I was perfectly fine and Bfing was fine if I used a boppy to protect my incision.  I was really disappointed I had to do it that way but the recovery was not nearly as bad as I thought.  I really don't care about the scar as I will probably never be seen in a bikini again.
