Changing table question

We FINALLY found a crib that dh and I both liked. The "changing table" that matches the crib looks just like a dresser, without a lip or rail attached. Is this safe to just put the changing pad on top of this type of furniture? Does anyone have kids and used this type of setup. The dresser is 500$ and i don't want to waste that money if i will eventually need something else or put the baby on the floor with a mat to change her diaper. WDYT??

Re: Changing table question

  • That's what we have. We put a contoured changing pad on the top.

yup. we just got a dresser and put a changing pad on top. just make sure the pad doesn't move with a non-slip pad or by getting the kind that secures to the wall.
  • I do not have children --- but it seems like everyone I know recently is using a changing pad on top of a dresser. The changing pad has a strap you can kind of put around the dresser so since everyone else is doing it I am guessing it is safe?
  • This is what we are getting too - can't wait for our dresser to be delivered!  The changing pad we have is able to be attached to the back of the dresser with a screw.  I don't know if they all have this though Confused
  • It is perfectly safe!  Ours is on Rylie's dresser and it isn't attached.  I would never leave my baby unattended on it, and that would be the only way it would be unsafe.

  • That is what we have.  I didnt want to have ot get a seperate changing table as the room is small.
  • Should any changing pad attach to the wall or the back of the dresser or are there certain kinds? If so do you have a suggestion of one??

That would work fine. I would suggest putting a non slip thing under the changing pad as well.

  • We also got the changing table "topper" that the pad goes in.  The topper attaches to the back of the dresser with a screw.  We got it at pottery barn, I think you could attach that one to any dresser, just need to check the measurements.

This. You wont be leaving baby on the changing table alone whether there is a rail there or not. You will be fine.
