2nd Trimester

When are you starting the nursery?

When are you or did you start the nursery?

We probably won't be working on it until after our ultrasound (21 weeks) and then I may wait a little longer but I don't know. I am pretty anxious to get started on it.  I get nervous about buying anything as if I might jinx it, but I guess maybe after the anatomy scan I will feel a bit more relaxed and connected.  I just worry about losing the baby and then having a whole room filled with baby stuff.

Re: When are you starting the nursery?

  • I bought the furniture at around 14 weeks and now have all the bedding, lots of decor, etc but am still putting everything together in it now.

  • You have to do what's best for you and what fits into your comfort level.

I'm a planner by nature, I planned my wedding 18 months in advance because I get anxious if I feel like I'm not prepared, so my nursery is almost done, I have it painted and the furniture in there where I want it but the final touches (wall decals etc) haven't been done yet.

There is no rush though if you feel like you want to wait, you have time. :)

  • We started about 22 weeks.
  • We bought our crib furniture around 22 weeks.  It takes 10-14 weeks to come in.

Then probably around 23 weeks we bought the bedding...I ended up finding something I like better this week so I ordered a new one this week and will be returning that one.

My husband started painting after we picked out the bedding.

  • I think that worrying about losing the baby and having tons of baby stuff is a really common concern- I know that it's occurred to me more than once- but DH and I started working on our nursery after the first trimester (not counting the cleaning out we did of the room during the first weeks of my pregnancy). We've made a lot of progress on it since and it's really relaxing for me to go in there and see that there's a lot that's already been done.

For some people, it would probably be more stressful to have it done early, but I like knowing that if my baby makes an early entrance, then I'll be prepared for him!

  • Well, I def understand your perspective.  I was hesistant at first as well.

To answer your question, we have moved all of the clothes out of the room and now need to donate the furniture.  I don't want to wait too late and be too tired to do anything.  We got his bedding last week after the BIG U/S.  I'm still trying to decide on a crib for him.

  • Not for a while yet.  We'll probably order the furniture at around 25 weeks (late September), clear out the office furniture in early October and have the closet built, then start setting the room up in November (30-32 week or so).

I'm a planner and would love to get it done earlier but, since we are changing over our office, we have a lot to clear out and store.  Plus, that room doesn't currently have a closet so we need time for the construction (and letting the dust settle).

when we find out what we're having.  We're having a gender US this weekend, and then a confirmation anatomy scan at my OB's in 5 weeks.  After the confirmation we'll start the nursery.

  • I am just now starting on it and am at 21 weeks.
  • Not until middle of September. ?Currently, I live an hour and a half away from my boyfriend. ?My lease is up in September and then I'll be moving back to that town and into his house. ?He has a roommate living in the baby's room right now, so since he won't be gone until I get up there, we just have to wait til then to do anything.
  • We will order our furniture within the next week, after our big ultrasound on Tuesday. My goal is to have the nursery done by 30 weeks.

  • I ordered a crib at like 11 weeks!  We just put it together a few weeks ago.  Other than a crib and a changing table we don't really have anything else...I feel like we need to get moving quickly!  Time flies.

  • We ordered the crib at 21 weeks and it should be here in late August.  Other than that and buying paint we haven't done a thing.  We may start painting this weekend though.  ::note to self - get motivated!!::
  • I think we'll order the furniture soon as we decided on it and it's on sale and I like it for either a boy or girl. Everything else will wait until after the Big U/S on Sept 8th. I don't like themes or bedding sets so it may take me a while to find all the individual parts of the nursery to bring it all together.
  • I completely understand.  I am almost 21 weeks and I am really supersticious and have not done anything in the nursery to be yet (although I could have cleaned it out by know ....oh, well).  I ordered the bedding and had it delivered to my MIL's house.  I do plan on calling the contractor after my big u/s (tomorrow) and getting him in to start some of the work we want to have done on the room.  You have plenty of time to set it up....I would recommend at least picking out the crib you like so that you know the delivery lead time required.
  • We are about to move from a 2 bed apartment to a 4 bed house next week.  After we get settled in, I will get started asap! Thinking around week 20 or so.
  • The very second we close on our house! Seriously though, we both can't wait to move and hope our offer is accepted soon so we can start the nursery.

  • Last time we were pg we ordered furniture around 14 weeks.  It is still sitting in our nursery waiting patiently for this LO.  We will start decorating as soon as we find out next Thursday!
  • We ordered our furniture and bedding at 24 weeks.  We picked it up it this past weekend and are getting everything together now.

  • We are waiting for our big u/s (at 18 wks) so I know what colors of stuff to get and how much of DD's stuff we can re-useBig Smile
  • We are done!  We started as soon as I made the leap to 2nd tri.  All we had to do was paint and set up furniture and whatnot.  I fell in love with a gender neutral bedding set, which works our well because we hope to reuse it for baby #2.... whenever that may be.  Big Smile

This for us too, minus the building of a closet.

The baby will be in our room for the first months anyway, so even if she/he comes early, it won't be the end of the world if the room isn't totally done.

  • We'll be lucky if we get started before the baby is born.  We have a lot of things to finish to make the nursery "available."  We're in the process of finishing our basement into a new playroom, then we'll move DS into the old playroom and THEN we can start the nursery.  Stick out tongue

  • I have every detail planned. However, I only have the crib + changer combo and the 2 dressers in the room now. I registered for all the bedding + decor, along wiht typical registry stuff. Whatever I do not get from my shower will be purchased by us. Smile

  • We have slowly been ordering things.  Ordering the crib tonight.  My dad and husband are putting up the crown molding and chair rail and painting next weekend.  Right now I am still working on emptying out the room.  I am getting a slow start!

  • We painted the nursery 2 weeks ago and put together the crib and changing table the same day.  So, it's basically done, except for some wall hangings and curtains.  I get paranoid about not getting stuff done, so I just went ahead and knocked it out while I was on vacation.  That will be the only time i have a week off until after the baby.
  • Painting this weekend, and the furniture will be delivered on Monday!
