2nd Trimester

Anyone else NOT having a 4-D??

Ultrasound that is.  I would love to have one, and I think they are so cool b/c you can actually see who/what your LO is going to look like.  +

But we are choosing not to have one so that there is an element of surprise when we meet him for the first time when he's born.

Anyone else not having one done and why not???

Re: Anyone else NOT having a 4-D??

  • We're not because I'd rather use the money to get newborn pics taken in the first couple of weeks after she is born.

Don't get me wrong, if I had the extra $, I'd do it in a second!

  • Eh, I'm still up in the air about this. Part of me doesn't want to spend the money for it, but the other part is curious to see what LO looks like.  Besides, knowing my luck, we'd pay the money and LO would be sitting there with his/her hands over their face!

  • We aren't doing any of the 3D/4D ultrasounds.  To be honest, I think the pictures are freaky.
  • I'm not having one either. I would rather save the money.
  • I'm not having one because it is not necessary, and insurance won't cover it.  It just seems like a luxury that I don't need to spend money on.

  • nope, $$ reasons. We could if we wanted to, but we would rather put the money towards our mini 5 year anni trip, or refinishing the basement to make it a play room.

  • We are not getting one either - for similar reasons.  I think it is kind of anti-climactic to already have a good idea of what your baby will look like before you've even given birth.

Plus (and this is probably flame-worthy), I think they are kind of creepy looking.  Embarrassed

  • No.  We didn't get them w/DS either.  Honestly, I think they're a little creepy looking.  But it would be fun  to "see" the baby again before he/she is born!

  • We haven't decided 100% for sure yet, but I'm leaning towards no.  I'd love to see the baby, but I'm having a hard time justifying the cost just to get a peek.  The places I've seen charge about $300.  Will I look at the video and pics once the baby is here? I never look at my wedding video. I want to spend the cash on books and toys and all the stuff I'll need. Still, I want to see him!
  • I'm not - for the element of surprise and because it's not a necessity.

  • 4D!? Never heard of it! I'm having a 2D and a 3D done at my big ultrasound but only because they offered it and it is covered by insurance!

EDIT: yes they are SUPER creepy but I'm still doing it!! If I had to pay I wouldn't!

  • I'm not.  I think they look like creapy blobs of goldish baby.  Freaks me out a bit.  Plus I don't want to spend the extra money on something that pales in comparision to the real thing that I just need to wait until January to see.

  • I'm glad other people think they are creepy too.  I was beginning to think I was alone!
  • We had one with DS. I loved it and really thought it was neat. However this time around we are opting not to spend the $ on that and put it towards other things.

  • We're not- DH thinks it's a waste of money and I'd rather spend it on pictures when the baby's born.
  • I'm not, because I am cheap. ;)

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one!  Most women that I work with and other friends have all gotten them done and they act like I'm crazy for not wanting one!!

This is exactly how we feel. We also feel like we don't want to see what our baby looks like until we can actually hold him or her in our arms.

  • We likely won't. We did with #1, but you know.... second babies are totally neglected.  Smile
  • We are not having one.

Essentially because it is a medical procedure, and while it is currently indicated as low risk that is a LOT of ultrasound waves to be sending at the baby to create the multi-dimensional image (a lot more than a regular medical ultrasound). So while it's probably safe, it's not neccessary and we're skipping it.

  • We are not.  We didn't with our daughter either.  We figure we can wait to see what this one looks like.  Also, being team green, every time an ultrasound is involved, I get nervous that someone is going to slip and reveal the gender.

We will just wait and put the extra money towards announcements and newborn pics.

And while we are being honest, I think they are a bit creepy as well.  And, I don't think anyone else thinks they are quite as exciting as the parents.  We've sat through many a 3D, 4D video that we could have done without!

  • We got one 3D pic with our gender testing ultrasound but other then that, I'd rather save the 200 bucks and get baby supplies.

hee hee, this made me giggle!

  • I will not be getting one since only a normal U/S is covered by my insurance.  I will be using the extra money to stuff for the baby and the unpaid time I have to take off work when the baby does come.
  • Definitely not. They are not necessary and not proven to be safe by the American Medical Association. Just an unnecessary risk IMO.
  • Nope we're not. I made a deal with DH that I would only agree to find out the sex if we didn't do the 4D. I don't want to take away every element of surprise with her. And I agree, they're a little creepy looking!

  • No way.  I personally wouldn't get any ultrasounds other than what my doctor thinks I should have.

Plus, the 3-D ultrasound the doctor did with my daughter really didn't look much like her.  Other than her hairline, I'd never recognize her in a million years!

  • I'm not having one.  My MW highly discourages social u/s.  We didn't get anything fancy with DS either.  How expensive are they?  I thought the 3-D ones are like $100 - $150?
  • Like many of the PP, not doing one because of cost, and some pics/videos i've seen also creeped my out.  A friend of mine did it and absolutely loved hers. So, if you can afford it and really want to do it, go for it!

  • We are not having one done.  I totally wanted to but my DH thinks they are creepy and we really can't afford it.
