Pregnant after a Loss

Those with dogs and cats

Do your animals act differently around you either before you knew or since you found out you were pg??

We have 2 Jack Russell Terriers (yes we're insane lol) and even before I got my BFP and before the last one the pup who's actually like 18months old sleeps between my legs almost in my crotch (I know TMI lol) and the other one sleeps between my ankles or infront of my abdomen. LOL Before I got my BFP DH kept asking where he was sleeping and a few days before he went back to being so close and hasn't left since. He even does this when DH isn't in the bed when he's at work when he'd have plenty of space to sprawl out.

I just wondered if mine were normal or abnormal for reacting so soon.

  • My dog is much more cautious around me, no jumping or anything.

  • My 6 month old golden retriever acts the same as usual, like a lunatic.  When I was at my aunt's house this weekend, her little dog followed me everywhere and always laid down under my chair.  It was cute.
  • I have a 3 yr old German Shepard and she is acting different.  At 1st she was the same but in the last 2 weeks she has started coming up to me and very gently nosing my belly.  Its so so so cute!  She will nose me 2 or 3 times and then rub her face against my belly.  I love it!

    My cat is completely oblivious.

  • my maltese acts the same....the only thing I keep him from doing is jumping over me on my stomach to get from one side of the couch to the other....I have to lift him over me and I think he thinks its odd.

  • I have three cats, and they are constantly laying their top half on my bump.  it's too cute.

However, I have a friend who has a HUGE doberman--this dog jumps on everyone when they walk in the door.  The minute I showed up pregnant with my DD a few years ago, he didn't jump on me (he DID jump on my friend who walked in after me).  When I sat down on the couch, he gently got up on the couch and laid down with his head in my lap.  He didn't move the entire time I was there!!

  • Our cat hasn't changed a bit!!  From day 1, our dog (a german shepherd/lab mix) has gotten much more cautious around me and lays his head on my belly when we're in bed sometimes.  He never did that before--it's so cute to see he's already so protective of this baby!!

So far my 2 Boston Terriers haven't noticed any changes. They still act silly, jump on me and constantly want attention. I think once I get bigger they will start to act different.

  • At first I thought my Boxers were acting differently around me - but I think they are far too brainless to understand that something is different :) ?
  • My dog is a lot calmer with me. When I walk her, she doesn't pull at her leash as much. She also hangs out with me a lot more than she does my DH (who used to be her favorite). Otherwise, she is pretty much the same.
  • we have a very needy persian cat. He is the sweetest thing ever....hasnt changed at all... His latest thing is he lays outside the nursery (like in the door way)...looks like he is guarding it. He knows that room is a no no....pretty hilarious. Should be interesting how he is when baby girl arrives!

  • so I just learned this in my infant safety class.  Your dog actually thinks you are having PUPPIES!  ha-ha.  it is true!  so they might not care or they might be over protective!  My cat knows something is up with the changes in the house....but that is about it.

  • My cat will not leave me alone. She sleeps on me every chance she gets.
