So, Regarding oatmeal

It can't be the instant packets??? It has to be the kind in the cylinder container or slow cook?  Is this true?!  Ugh.  Was hoping to eat instant for breakfast to keep up my supply, no time to cook it every morning!

Re: So, Regarding oatmeal

  • I eat the instant and just hope that helps.

  • I use the quick oats in the cardboard cylinder. they only take 1.5 min to cook and I hope they work... instant is a minute (and some flavors have dairy added), so it's not that much more time, and you can flavor it up anyway you want.

I like dried cranberries and slivered almonds, or I use my vanilla rice milk instead of water and add raisins, or use the sunmaid fruit bits... and then there's always brown sugar...

  • Kellymom says any kind: https://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/oatmeal.html I use the instant from the cylinder, because I prefer to add my own fruit, but I don't see why the packets wouldn't work. The non-instant oats are supposed to be nutritionally superior, but I don't know that it makes a difference for BFing purposes.

  • I use instant and swear if I don't eat it for a few days my supply dips, then I eat it and it is fine the next day

  • In my experience, the old fashioned Quaker oats work better for keeping my supply up.

Did you know that you can microwave the old fashioned oats?  It just takes a minute or two longer in the microwave.  The microwave directions are on the canister.  I suggest you give it a try.

  • I microwave the old fashioned oats at work.  Before I leave the house I put 1/2 cup of oats in a gladware container with a spoonful or two of brown sugar.  At work I add some hot water and a couple of mini-moos (creamer) and microwave for about 45 seconds.  Every time I make it someone comments about how good it smells!

  • Thanks ladies!  I have a cylinder at home, so I'll try that in the microwave!
