Breastfeeding

newborn feeding

i dont know how you all are able to do this whole BFing thing...im losing steam, fast...anyways, it seems  like my LO still isnt full after 20 min on each side, 40 min total. I hear him swallow and i am dripping so i know its there...how much is too much time on either side? should i increase the minutes?

  • At the beginning, you should let the baby determine how long he wants to eat.  He will generally fall asleep or let go once he's done.  It's hard to let them go forever but it's good for your supply...and they do get quicker as they practice!

    Hang in there!

  • The best advice for the first 12 weeks or so is just to let the baby nurse as long as he/she wants. It's the best thing for your supply!

It's tough at first because you feel like you can't get anything done but I promise, it does get better! After 10-12 weeks, BF becomes so much more enjoyable.

Good luck, I'm sure you're doing a great job!?

  • I remember feeling really frustrated the first couple weeks of breastfeeding because that was the only I was doing. I finally read an article that really helped me put things in perspective. It said that in these first few weeks the most important and best thing you can do is feed/take care of your baby. It's a huge accomplishment. Not only did you give birth to this baby but now you're feeding and nourishing them as well. I hope that idea helps you like it did me.
