Anyone delivering or has delivered recently at St. Joseph's Hospital?

What was your experience like?  My doc delivers at St. Joes and at Prentice but is recommending St. Joes b/c of how rushed and overworked nurses are at Prentice right now.  I'm high-risk so my  nursing care is a big deal to me.

  • I delivered there a year ago and would say my experience was so-so.  Luckily for me, the nurses were great when it counted (when I was first admitted and in labor), but I found that the care I received while I was recouperating was pretty poor (I even had to walk to the nurses' station myself one time to get some towels).

I also do not like that your baby stays with you 24 hours a day.  I may be in the minority on that, but I did not rest well at all and was exhausted when I was discharged.  Imagine my surprise to see a charge for the nursery on my itemized insurance bill.  I guess that's "standard procedure", but it seemed like a total rip off to me.

I hope your experience is wonderful wherever you decide to go.

  • I delivered at St. Joseph's in Lincoln park area in 2005 (I'm not sure if this is the one in question) my experience was "GOOD"  but I will say the care I received during labor/delivery was much better than the recovery phase.  I was barely checked on afterwards from what I remember and there was confusion with the car seat (one nurse said they needed to see the carseat) so we brought it upstairs, then the next said we couldn't leave until the car seat was installed properly in the car.  I also had to REQUEST them take my son to the nursery bc I was sooooooo exhausted and did not have help the first night there since I was not married at the time.
