Do you have window guards for DC's 2nd story BR?

Do you have window guards ("gates") or any other means of childproofing on your DC's 2nd story BR windows?  I am moving DS out of his crib soon, and we like to leave our windows open as much as possible (especially at night when it's cooler out).  His room would be way too hot if I left the windows closed when the A/C is off.  Also, any recommendations on brands or where to find the best prices?  I'm googling, but they're more expensive than I had thought.  They are a good idea, right?  I'm not just being "crazy"?  His furniture works best in his room w/ the bed being right under a window, and I hate to even think about anything happening.

  • No, but we have windows that open top down as well as bottom up, so we just make sure we ALWAYS open them from the top down (plus it is hard to open the window, so I know he can't open the bottom on his own). If our windows didn;t open that way I would definitely get window guards.

  • No but they have double locks and that is my reason for leaving the central air on (I told my husband we would need window guards for all the windows upstairs or the ac stays on)

    ?

This is what I was going to say about our windows. ?If they didn't open from the top, or if I thought there was a chance he could get the bottom open on his own, I'd definitely get some sort of lock.?

  • no, but we do not leave his window open and unlocked.  He is not a great sleeper, it takes quiet for him to sleep.  so the windows must be closed.
  • Nothing really.... we have the stoppers on top which I usually keep up but Ethan is now 4 and he's been in a big boy bed for 1.5 years and he's really not the type to do anything. It's also another reason why I still have a monitor in his room, I need to know what's going on when he wakes up.

The screens on his windows are very very hard to move/remove.

  • We dont' have guards but we've had teh central air on since it started to get warm for this reason.  DS also wakes easily to outside noises (dogs barking, loud cars etc) so even if it wasn't hot, we prob wouldn't leave the windows open anyway.

Sucks b/c I love the fresh air (when it's not a bazillion degrees), but there is no way I'd be able to sleep knowing his windows were open, and honestly, I think the guards look kind of ghetto (sorry! Embarrassed  Since DS's room is on the front of the house... well... it's just easier to keep the AC on :)
