Babies: 0 - 3 Months

If your child is 3-4 months...come in!

How much tummy time do you do?  I feel like a bad mom bc tummy time seems to always get pushed off/not done.  And when we do it, he will only tolerate it for a few minutes.  He will hold his head up some, but then it will slowly get lower and lower until it is on the ground.

He does good at holding his head up when I am holding him or when he is sitting.  But he just doesn't want to be completely on his belly.  Anyone else?

  • DD doesn't really like it for too long either.  She also likes it when we hold her up like superman.  So we do a little bit of everything.

  • On a good day 10-15 minutes. It is usually more like 5 minutes most days. I also feel bad, but DS seems to be able to do the things he should at 3 months so I guess I am not too concerned about it.
  • we do it about once to twice a day for 5 minutes max. thats all my LO will tolerate. he has been holding his head up just fine on his own though. im not worried. my pedi said even with zero tummy time, they will still eventually hold their head up, it will just take a bit longer.
  • Bri is good for MAYBE 3min before she has a full blown melt down. She will hold her head up but won't do a "push up"
  • We're bad about doing it too (my mom is home with him during the day and I don't think she does it at all).  DS does the same thing with his head getting lower and lower, but I've discovered if I put his arms/chest on the boppy pillow, he holds his head up better and will play longer.  HTH!

  • Maren is 3 months today.  We don't do a whole lot of TT b/c she sleeps on her belly.  She has bad reflux, so I don't put her on her belly to play that often. It's a mess when I do.
  • DD hated it, until we got the fisher price jungle play mat. she LOVES the thing and we started doing it more, and she is rolling over now and oushing her had, shoulders and chest off the ground. it is one of the best gifts from my mom!!  oh and an infantino floor ball that flashes lights and plays music when it is bounced or rolled. she follows that thing and grabs at it.

  • Addi doesn't like it either but will tolerate about 5 minutes. I try to use the Boppy and other pillows to help her but mostly she likes to be held the front way sitting up to look at everything! I've notices she is liking it more than before though and she can hold her head up pretty well.

  • Evie does the same thing! She only tolerates MAYBE 2 minutes of TT.  I've tried everything, I don't know what else to do.  I want her to do a push-up and figure out that she can still look around.

  • dd is now starting to tolerate tummy time much better. she used to just scream and lay there waiting for me to pick her up. when this was the case we were lucky to do 5 min.

now she can hold her head no problem and enjoys it much more. it was like all of sudden one day she decided she could and would do it.?

  • DS isn't quite 3 months, but at his 2 mo checkup, the pedi was worried about his flat head and said we had to get serious abut tummy time (we didn't do hardly any before because he HATED it).  So, I started making him do it for at 2 minutes at a time since last Monday.  The progress he's made is incredible and now sometimes he'll go for 10 minutes until he gets riled up.  Now he can hold his chest up off the floor and look straight ahead for about 2 seconds!
  • keep doing a little bit each day. your LO will get stronger for it, and before you know it they will be rolling over non-stop. when we first started, my DD barely lasted a minute. now she's on her tummy by choice when we play.
  • My DS is a tummy sleeper, so he does alot of tummy time on his own. We try to get to the mat everyday, if that doesn't happen, then every second day. He really does enjoy it though.
