Breastfeeding

Nursing and pumping...

Okay, so I am Nursing my LO and wanting to pump enough of a supply so I can eventually feed with the bottle. My husband travel and when he is home, I know that Bottle feeding is extra bonding time they have (and more mommy sleep time I have). I am drinking the mother's milk tea--3-4 cups a day. My difficulty is coming up with a pumping schedule, so that I haven't pumped right before he gets hungry. I have tried 30 minutes after he eats, 1 hour before he eats. Can someone share what their "pumping schedule" looks like? ( I guess that is the teacher in me...I need schedules...)

THANKS

Re: Nursing and pumping...

  • You'll get the most bang if you do it right after a morning feed; that's when you have the most milk.

  • I agree with the pp especially if it's just for 1 bottle a day or the occasional bottle.  When I was getting ready to go back to work, I'd pump either immediately after or 1 hour after DD's first nursing session of the day.  I was actually surprised by the amount I was able to get.  Good luck!

  • I use a double pump early in the morning after her first feeding. I pump for about 5-10 minutes and get around 3-4 oz in each bottle, which is about how much she takes at each feeding.
