What the F is up with the ants??

they say things are bigger in Texas, well the anthills in my backyard certainly are!!  There were 2 HUGE ones last night that I used almost a full can of Raid on...then this morning, there's like 5 more, around where the 2 were.  I just went ape-sh!t on those ants!! - no more Raid and I'm about out of Seven (those were the 2 things I had on hand).  My backyard seriously smells like a chemical bomb went off!  Anyone know how to get rid of 'em?? 

 oh, and something bit my toe while I was out there & now I'm itchy bc I feel like ants are crawling all over me -yuk!

    Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some stuff you spread out on your lawn that is specifically for ants. We had a fire ant hill that was about 2 feet long and about 8 inches high in our back yard!!! My DH spread some stuff over it, can't remember what its called, but for a big bag of it, it was only like 13 bucks, and then mowed it over a couple days later, and no more ants...until it rained and then he had to do it over :( I did see something there though that said it was supposed to last like 3 months, might try that next time.

    You have to watch out for the ants or they will be on you faster than anything and sting like a motherf&cker.  I did not know what fire ants were when I first moved here and found myself covered as a kid.  NOT fun.  They are a pain to kill though.

    Andro fire ant bait/killer is the best.. sprinkle it on the mound and they'll go away.  I believe they also sell stuff you can put all over your lawn.

    We use Over 'N Out????? I think that's what it's called. Anyway, you put it on your whole yard and it worked for us. Worth a shot. We got it at Lowes or Home Depot

    Thanks ladies - I'm SO heading to Lowes/Home Depot tonight.  This is driving me CRAZY!!!!  there are millions & millions fo them...yuk!  I'm still itching

    We have a pest control service that comes every other month so we've not had to worry about really anything........it's not the most economical route, but we're too lazy to take care of insects ourselves, and I'm completely, irrationally terrified of spiders.

    My DH swears the best way to get rid of them is to burn the mounds with gasoline. I haven't allowed him to do this yet and I don't think it will happen anytime soon :)
