Adoption

We have our referral!

I still can't believe it!  Our adoption coordinator called this morning and we go in tomorrow to get the picture and medical report.  I am so nervous and excited at the same time.  All we know so far is that it's a boy and he was born on January 11.  If we accept, we'll be flying to Korea in 3 to 4 months.  I can't believe how short our wait was, we submitted our paperwork on May 18.  Our agency thought it would be a quick match since we are open to a lot of medical issues, but even they didn't think it would be this fast.  It's very ironic that I'm using words like quick and short considering we've been trying to adopt for 3 years, and went through 2 years of IF treatments before that.  Holy moly, I'm going to be a mom!

  • Congrats!  And forgive me, but I don't remember your backstory -- do you mind refreshing my memory?  So exciting for you!!!
  • Our backstory- diagnosed with PCOS- 5 rounds of IVF, 1 miscarriage at 10 weeks, 1 failed international adoption when the program in Vietnam closed (we were #2 in line in our province), 1 failed domestic adoption where we backed out because it was legally risky (she kept changing the story about the birth father and we were afraid he would show up late and contest the adoption).  I had to lose 80 lbs to qualify for the BMI requirements in Korea.  So, all in all, not an easy path, but hopefully well worth the wait!

  • Congrats! That's wonderful news! Do you have an IA doc to look at the referral for you? My oldest son was a WIC,so I can offer a recommendation if you need one--he's Korean, even!

Are you planning to travel? Seoul is surreal and absolutely amazing. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer--we've been twice, most recently in December to bring home #2 (who finalized last week!).
