Has anyone already added their LO to their dental insurance?

I am trying to decided whether to add DS to my dental insurance now or wait another year since the pedi isn't recommending a dental appointment until age 2. After reading Flygeah's post I am thinking it might be good to have DS on the insurance now just as a precaution.

Re: Has anyone already added their LO to their dental insurance?

  • I added my DS when he was born b/c it didn't cost me any extra $. We were already paying for the family plan b/c of dsd.

  • We added him when he was born.  Our Pedi recommended heading to the dentist at 12 months so that is what we went with (well 15 month. )
  • I'm taking DS within the next 6 months. His teeth are barely through. I figure it is good for them to get use to seeing the dentist. I've always heard they should see the dentist within 6 months of their teeth coming in.
  • We don't have dental insurance but I pay out of pocket every 6 months to have my teeth cleaned. My dental hygienist recommended bringing DS to my appointments. They work with them to let them watch and see "what's going on with mommy" and then when they are big enough they ask to clean "just one tooth" to ease them into the process. Basically building up a relationship over time so that the LO's don't get too worked up about it.
  • Dental is incorporated with my Health insurance, so when I added DS at birth, he was automatically added to dental and vision.
  • we haven't added C.  It's extra and I'm not really planning on it until after 12 months or whenever the open enrollment is around then.
  • We did this year. I wanted him on there in case he knocked out or chipped a tooth or something. I haven't taken him for a check up or anything yet.?
  • Not yet, but we'll probably add her when we have open enrollment for next year.

THIS. In reality though, you really don't need to take them to the dentist until they are around 2. I know they say otherwise so it's just really your choice.

  • I was recently told that to start taking them with you to yours appts. so they will be comfortable with the idea.  I parents took me for the first time when I was 2.
