Hi Everyone,
I've lurked for a while but thought I would come out of the woodwork and introduce myself. My hubby and I have been TTC for just over 2 years now. I'm 36 and he's 40. Neither of us has any kids. We've been diagnosed with "Unexplained Infertility". I just finished up 6 months of Clomid (though I supposedly don't have any problems ovulating on my own) and have been referred to an OB that specializes in infertility. He has suggested that we are good candidates for IUI but wants to do Laproscopy(sp?) surgery on me before anything. My surgery isn't scheduled until October 21st which kind of sucks. While explaining about the IUI he stated that sometimes an IUI cycle needs to be cancelled because of too many follicles, etc. He told us that if that occurs he has a deal with an IVF clinic about two hours away that will do an IVF that cycle (if it's a good cycle for IVF) for free so it's not a total bust.
I'm afraid things aren't going to work out and I feel like we're running out of time.
Re: Introduction
Welcome to the board. Sorry to hear about your struggles. Good luck to you!
By the way, that free IVF sounds like an unbelievable deal!
welcome and good luck. i'm just newly back out again. i used to post a few months ago.
sorry to hear of your struggles.
why does your doctor want to do laparoscopy? i'm guessing you've already have had an HSG and lab work as well.
agree with pp..but welcome and hope your stay is short here..
I agree with cheeky...get a second opinion from an RE if that is not what your dr is...it makes all the difference.
Welcome and good luck!!! Hope your stay here is short!!
I did have the HSG and a mountain of other lab work which was ordered by the OB (as well as an SA for hubby). This doc (who is an RE) wants to do the lap to ensure that I don't have endometriosis. He said he's being cautious to ensure that everything's been ruled out before we start any other medications/procedures.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!
I had a laparoscopy at the end of June after a ton of bloodwork for me and husband and SA for him. Then an hsg that showed signs of endometriosis. And my RE still hasn't discussed IUI. He thinks there needs to be many things ruled out for true "unexplained infertility".
Try not to worry too much. 36 is actually young for the specialists!
Welcome to the board. Im sorry that you have been struggling with unexplained IF with 2 years. I hope that you find some success soon.
Please dont think I am minimizing your concerns, but at 36 usually you do have enough time. You are not anywhere close to out of time. A good RE can do a lot.
Good luck!!!
Definitely get a 2nd opinion before going through with surgery! If you had a normal HSG & your husband's sperm analysis was normal, surgery sounds unnecessarily invasive.
You could actually post a question to The Doctors show (a U.S. show--you can google for info). They answer all kinds of questions from regular people.
Good luck, and keep us posted!
Welcome and good luck.
To the other posters, remember she is in Canada...different medical practices from the US. So she may not follow the same protocol as we do.
Welcome from out of the shadows. I can't offer any wisdom to your procedures as we have yet to get any more aggressive than reading, research and temping, but if anyone can help with questions, it's the ladies on this board. And at 36, you're a whippersnapper on this board.
Good luck!!!
I don't have anything to add that the other posters have not already said.
But I did want to say welcome and good luck!
