it's something for them to focus their attention on and wonder what it is. I think they really do like it.. but there are other things you can use instead of it..

My nephew loves all spinning things. He thinks ceiling fans and ceiling decorations are amazing. So, I'm assuming most babies would think so too. I would get it and if the baby doesn't like it, you can always take it down.
When I was pg with my son, my SIL said they are a waste of money. She was pg with her 4th so I took her word for it. I have no plans to get one with this baby either.
I think it is one of those things that just depends on the baby. ?My mom said all of us kids loved our mobiles, and my niece just loved hers too. ?It was the cutest thing seeing her lay there staring it down and studying it. ?I think if you can get one with bright colors, they will find it a lot more interesting.

YES! My dd loved hers! Once she starting sitting though we took it out and put in the rainforest crib soother...could not survive without it. I will probably put the soother on the side of her toddler bed to help with the transition when the time comes
My sister has one for her 8 month old daughter and said it is a waste! She has the aquarium thing that goes in the crib which she says is much more useful. I'm probably not registering for the mobiles.
I worked daycare in a nursery room for 4 years and we had mobiles on half the cribs and then just the bottom part of the mobile that makes the music on the other half and all the babies slept the same....I think it is more so the music and the noise that they make....but I could be very wrong. Like pp said, just try it out and see what your LO likes! If they don't need it over their crib to help fall asleep, attach it to the changing table to give them something to look at while changing. We had mobiles over the changing tables and that seemed to make for less fussy babies while changing because they had something to stare at besides the ceiling..

My son loved his. It was great for when I needed to get a few things done around the house and needed 10-15 minutes where he could safely hang out by himself in the crib. He would be totally fascinated for a while.
The babies LOVE the mobiles. The colour, motion, music and characters stimulate their brain. DS loved his Winnie The Pooh one that played music and shone stars on the ceiling.
Re: Do babies really like crib mobiles?
Ahh. Ok that makes sense! Thank you!
