Breastfeeding

Half my breast is clogged. Seriously.

Is it normal for literally an entire hemisphere of breast to have clogged ducts? ?I have been massaging and nursing and pumping all day and nothing seems to make it get any softer. ?And it's such a large area. ?My supply has tanked from that side, and that's my good side. ?

ARGH.?

  • Yes, when I clog its half of my boob every time!  Its extrodinarily annoying.  I swear by putting a heating pad on it and pumping.  Also, last time I had one I found that I had a milk blister and that the clog was actually on my nipple.  I had to literally pop it with a pin (yikes!) and then it all pumped out easily.

  • It helped me to put the shower head on the massager and put it on my boob for a few mins before each pumping.  Also, I was able to hand express a lot more than I could from pumping for some reason.  So if you can, maybe do that in the shower?  Also, my LC suggested I start taking a supplement called Lethicin.  She said it would help..and it did!

  • I just had a massive clog, and one of the moms on this board also suggested I check for a bleb.  It took a few days for it to surface, but there it was. I used hot compresses and took several long, very hot showers each day.  I also encouraged my LO to nurse as much as possible.  Good luck - it took me a full week to get rid of my last massive clog!
  • ditto above...i was able to get relief more so by hand expressing as well as pumping every two hours.
