I just had my first u/s today and all the sudden this whole pregnancy thing feels so real!!! My husband and I are totally excited and want to share the good news. Anyone have suggestions for when the right time is to tell family and friends?
We only told my mom, my sisters and my IL's until after our first u/s. Then I felt a little more comfortable telling close coworkers. This weekend, we are planning on telling DH's side of the family at the reunion.
Jack Emmett born on 2/2/10 after 17 cycles and a miscarriage
Calvin Wyatt born on 1/10/12. Our surprise baby!
Tell whenever you're comfortable. We have a previous loss and wanted to wait - we told family and close friends last week. I'm going to be lame and announce on FB rather than calling my extended family and the rest of our circle of friends.
We told everyone as soon as we found out with this one. It just wasn't as big of a "deal" to keep it a secret like the 1st one, which we waited 11 weeks on.
I told my parents and siblings right away. This is our first and I was so excited when I saw the positive test. I also told a couple close friends. I asked them not to tell yet. I wanted to wait until I felt comfortable, maybe after my first u/s. My mom doesn't understand and we got in a fight today about telling her family or not. It didn't help that I was a little moody. I am so stressed about this. It feels like when I got engaged and everybody wants to run the show. What should I do???
We've had a few losses so we didn't want to get anyone's hopes up, including ourselves.
I think we are going to start telling people the end of this month when we'll be around 11-12 weeks. I'm dreading tell my parents, our last phone call ended last week with "I hope you don't have kids soon". Eye yai yai.

We've been weird about telling -- we told two of my closest girlfriends right away, followed by his parents, and then another 2-3 very close friends. We may tell his brothers while we're all on vacation next week. Not sure about when we'll tell my family -- there's a lot of crazy there, so we're kind of avoiding it until the end of the first tri. Our rule has been -- how would we feel telling these people if something went wrong?
Before I got pregnant, I admit that I thought it was a little crazy to tell before 13 weeks. Things changed when I actually experienced trying to keep the secret! Since practically everyone knew we were TTC (b/c we did it for so long and had so many complications, I really wanted the support of good friends), we ended up telling close friends and extended family at around 7 weeks, after seeing/hearing the HB. I won't tell coworkers, etc. until 13 weeks. We told our parents/siblings the day we got our BFP! They had been waiting as long as we had, so it was wonderful to share the news. Everyone who knows are people I would discuss miscarriage with, so that was my gauge. Congrats on the first u/s!!
If being a math nerd is wrong, I don't wanna be right!
We told my parents a couple of hours after our first u/s. We told DHs family a few days later and we told my sister and her FI this past weekend. We are going to tell the rest of my family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) on August 22nd, the day after my sister gets married.
