What exactly makes people "pop"? (not a question about the differences in women's anatomie

At 20 wks pg baby isn't even a pound. What makes bellies get so big sometimes? Is it the amniotic fluid buildup maybe?

I know that not everyone shows very early at all, and that every pg is diff. The shape of a woman's body makes a diff,  blah blah.

I'm just wondering what makes those big beautiful bumps (if you get one) before baby is very big at all! :)

  • Well, I went for my 20 week, and my baby was measuring a pound...but I just started to show. I know the placenta makes up some weight, as well as the fluid and other nutrients. I also think it depends on the womans frame, diet, and body makeup.

  • The uterus is growing. The baby may not weigh very much, but I was amazed to see how big it is at 20 weeks when I saw a life size demonstration baby/uterus. Imagine going from holding nothing to holding something the size of a mango or whatever it is this week... that's the reason for the "pop".
  • The uterus is getting very big and displacing other organs. Also someone with rockin' abs may show later than someone who does not, there's more to hold everything in.

Bro, but look how many ants are on this trash can...

  • at 20 weeks your uterus is almost the size of a soccer ball, give or take. that explains a lot!
  • Your uterus makes you pop.
  • As your uterus gets bigger, your organs get pushed up and smooshed together. Making the whole belly bigger : )
  • Wish I could see a life size demo in person.

Holy sh*t! A soccer ball! I did not know this! No wonder all my stomach organs are shoved up under my ribs!

  • fat :).  No, I'm kidding.  I'm on my third pg, and i've definitely 'popped' a lot sooner this time around even though I haven't actually gained any more than I had at this point in my previous pg's.  I can't speak for others, but for me, I think my ab muscles are just more stretched out and don't hold things in as well anymore.
  • I'm curious too! I've got a rather small frame, so I've had a bit of a tiny bump for a few weeks now- almost immediately it started going outwards. So much so that my MIL swears I'm having twins, because I am bigger (showing) more that she was at that point.

     Pleh!
