Name help please! Names with "lea" in them???

Re: Name help please! Names with "lea" in them???

  • OMG, I am so sorry.  Not sure what happened.  Haven't posted in a long time.

I would like to honor my mother and have "lea" in the name if it is a girl.  The only names I can think of are Kilea, Rilea, Marlea, Kailea, Kinlea, Keelea.  Any other suggestions?  Thanks so much!

  • Sorry but all of the names you listed just looked like you didn't know how to spell.  I would not go with any of them.  How about Leah?

  • I want something more unique.  I don't really care for Leah.  I might just end up using "Lea" as the middle name.
  • None of the names you listed is unique - they are actually really common but you just spelled them differently.  A different spelling does not make a name unique; it just makes it difficult on the child growing up.

  • I think those look ridiculous.  Sorry.
  • Hold up. I say Lea like Lee-uh, where I would guess you say Lea like Lee? Is this right?
    Blank!
  • I like Rilea, I also like original spellings especially when they honor someone.

  • Eleanore, Leah, Leanore, Leatrice.

  • Thank you to those that replied.  Lea is pronounced "Lee."  Yes, I would like to honor my mother's name Lea, but in a cute name, not necessarily unique.  Thank you!
  • Marlea is pronounced Mar-leah and it isnt made up. I have an employee with that name.
  • i think the names you listed kinda look made up.  sorry.  maybe you can just use lea, maybe as a middle name.

  • Sorry, but "Kilea," "Rilea," et al - very much nms.

What about: Eleanor/Eleanora? Also like pp's suggestion of Leanne/Leanna.

Also, fyi, you can delete your duplicate posts....

  • I relly wanted to use the name Malia for my LO...know it has also been spelled Malea too. I also like just plain Leah- cute and simple!

She may not be able to.  I've had this happen to me--it'll post parts of a post all in a row and then not let me delete or edit any of them because they've timed out (even if I've just posted).  It's definitely a glitch in the system somewhere.

Okay, if you're pronouncing Lea as "Lee" you're going to have even more trouble because I think most people will see the "a" and think Lea like Leah, not Lee.  I think it would still be honoring her to use the sound "lee" even if you have to spell it differently from Lea to avoid the name looking silly.  I like the suggestion of Eleanor!

  • I actually went to school with a girl named Ashlea, maybe you could do it as a middle name if ashleigh is your name.

Also, do you have your heart set on the lea spelling? We have the same problem with wanting to honor my FIL who is Lee. In the names we have thought up we use the leigh spelling, it seems to go with more. Just a thought! GL! Honoring people is a great idea but can be a pain!

  • Thanks everyone!  I cannot delete my duplicate posts- I have tried and it will not let me.  This is so annoying!  My first time to post anything and this happens to me.  Ugh!  Thanks for responding.  I have no idea what to do.  I know the names Kilea, Rilea, etc. all sound like "lee-ah" instead of "lee" which I do not like and do not want to put my child through.  Crying

    ditto.

  • I thought Lea was pronounced Leah so was really confused with all your name options.  That said, I still am not a fan of the spelling.  I would use Lea for a middle name.
  • Lealani, Leana, Leann
  • If you don't want a -leah pronunciation, I think you should work with Lea- at the front of a name.

Leanne and Leanna are among my favorites.

  • What about Eleanor?

I think you may want to avoid using names like what you listed above because I read them all like "leah" instead of "lee" and I think a lot of people will make that same mistake. My advice would be to either look for names that include the letters "lea" but sound like "leah" or look for names that have the sound "lee" in them but don't necessarily spell it "lea."

Also, Lea means weary. Maybe you could find a name with the same meaning as a way of honoring your mom? Or, could you use your mom's middle name or maiden name?

    Good luck!
