Ds figured out how to get out of his crib tonight and simultaneously figured out how to turn a door handle to open the door. So now it's 10:30 and he's sitting in my lap. Sigh. I guess we're just going baptism by fire with the toddler bed since if he can get out of the bed, I'd rather it be a bed 6 inches from the floor then one 4 ft from the floor. This is going to be a very long night and I anticipate a very early morning. And I really had things to do tonight and tomorrow.
Sorry pity party over here.

Duct tape???
I vote for chicken wire over the top of the crib and duct tape.
We moved #1 into a regular sized twin bed at 21 months (we got a low bed and no boxspring (they don't need it until they're bigger anyway). We baby-proofed his room and put a gate up at the door. (We moved him a few months before #2 came, so he didn't associate moving out of the crib with the new baby).
It was smooth sailing, with a few rough spots, but a few tricks from SuperNanny, and he's been a CHAMP at sleeping in his bed. I'd say a total of 5 times in the past 20 months he's come into our room at night.
And now we have a gate at the stairs, since we've found him in the kitchen a few mornings eating Yummy Earth suckers for breakfast, LOL!
