It's different for everyone. I am super short (5'1) and I needed maternity pants by about 11ish weeks. I got my first public comment from someone when I was about 14 weeks I think. I was all baby and my belly went straight out!

I was still wearing my regular jeans until 10 weeks. I switched to the belly band until 14 weeks... now I am in all maternity clothes. I really popped this week and am looking more pregnant than fat.

Our Story
I am pretty small to begin with, I started wearing the bella band around 11 wks, before that I would just wear low rise pants or pants that were a little looser on me. I started wearing maternity clothes at 15/16 wks, which is right when I really popped. I had a little belly before that, but it just looked like I was bloated or had gained a few pounds.
I couldn't button my pants by 9 weeks and i hated the bella band so I bought mat pants. They are so much more comfortable and I love them. I have some mat shirts but I can also wear some of my regular shirts if they are long. Others are too short and it doens't work. To those who know it is ovbious, but I have had zero stranger comments so far, so it must not be too ovbious, it also depends on what shirt I am wearing.
The bella band came to my rescue at around 13.5-14 wks. I got my first "congrats" from a stranger at about 16 wks when my "bump" really started to make its appearance. Up until about 12 weeks though, I just looked like I had a beer gut or had over-indulged on nachos. I was relieved when it finally deflated and became a distinct baby bump instead
This week at 13 weeks is when I had to move into maternity pants. My jeans got hard to button at about 11 weeks and this week I feel like I have a mini baby belly.

Re: When did you start showing with twins?
I started showing a small bump at 15weeks. This week (16w) a random colleague noticed my bump and wished me congratulations.
Before that I was just a little bloated and at the most looked pudgy.
