Those that formula feed, question for you...

What brand do you use, and what led you to pick that one?

I have a friend who can no longer keep up with her LO's demand, and so is exploring supplementing with formula for the first time.

Word to the wise: don't take Sudafed while BFing, it apparently dries everything up! (She's pissed at herself, too.)

Re: Those that formula feed, question for you...

  • We use the Costco brand, Kirkland's. The cost was the main reason for our pick. I looked at all the different brands and tried E on several different ones. She reacted the same way to them all (spit ups) so I went with the cheapest. Her pedi said our choice was perfectly fine. He was going to recommend it if I was not using it already.

  • We used Enfamil.  We were given that at the hospital so we just stuck withat that.

DD used the Enfamil Lacto Free, however she started on the regular Enfamil.  It usually was about $25/can at Walmart (cheapest place we found).  However, if you are just going to go with the regular formula, I heard that the Costco/Kirkland one was just as good and definitly cheaper.
  • I first tried Similac and then Enfamil and finally settled on the Kirkland brand after discussing with my pedi.

I like it, N never had any problems with the Kirkland formula, I think she actually digested it better than the Enfamil....less gas and spit up.

  • We use Enfamil because I had free samples- we started there and it worked well so we stuck with it. If I did it again, I'd try Costco first.  Still contemplating switching now... it's about 1/2 the cost.
  • I give her targets brand equiv of isomil (we had a sample of enfamil and B got very constipated so we?switched?to the isomil and she did much better with this. Our Ped said?that?the target brand was just as good so we gave it a try & she had no issues.)
  • We used Enfamil Lipil, because thats what the hospital sent us home with. We didn't really have issues (although looking back DD may have been a bit constipated, but nothing that was causing too much pain)

Our Dr gave us the greenlight to try Kirkland brand. Its worked out great for us and is half the cost.

  • We use Costco brand also. it's 1/3 the price of Enfamil at Costco.  We had to use Enfamil with Andrew until he was around 9 months because everything else we tried really upset his stomach.  At that point we switched him to Costco.
  • We used Similac Advance b/c our pedi gave us samples. She mentioned that Kirkland was perfectly okay too.

    Your poor friend.

  • We use the Similac Soy formula. Once we are out of coupons I may give the Target brand a go.

Milk issues run on DH's side. Jake was showing tummy and rash issues on normal formula and when I consumed milk. I stopped eating dairy, we switched to soy, and all now seems well.

  • We use good start. I wanted to use enfamil or similac but DD would not have it. It is supposed to taste pretty similar to BM.
  • We used a special preemie formula, Neosure for his first year... at $16 for a small can, it added up!

Once he hit a year, we switched to the generic Target brand with no issues.

  • We use Similac Advanced with Early Start
