If a neighbor mailed you a complaint (they live next door) ?would you write them a response or go next door? ?Our?inclination?is to talk to them, but they?obviously?don't want to confront us...
Well first, are you going to tell us what they're complaining about because you know that inquiring minds want to know!
I would probably send a letter back this time only because, like you said, it's obvious that they don't want to confront you. After that I would probably go next door and talk to them directly if it continued.

This! Then I would go over there in a really non-confrontational way. If I was bugging my neighbors I'd want to hash it out face to face rather than writing back and forth. Seems quicker with more clear communication.
Depends what the complaint was. If it was something that you're going to do, no questions asked, I'd just do it. If it's something you need to discuss, and you think it will be low-key, no hastles, I'd probably go over there just to do it in person. Maybe bring over a baked good or tea, so it's a bit less confrontational. If it's something you'll be inclined to have words over, I'd write them back.

really depends on the relationship with the neighbor and the 'offense' they are complaining about. did they send it registered mail/signature required? that would indicate they are contemplating legal action.

Depending on the "severity" of the issue, I would make DH go talk to them. I tend to get flustered really easily and have a bad tendency to yell when people are stupid. DH is level-headed and handles things much better than I do.
I think it would depend on the complaint. The only time I've ever put something in writing and made it official was when my 60something neighbor was having CONSTANT, REALLY LOUD sex that was keeping me from being able to be in my living room, kitchen, or guest room. I would not have gone for face-to-face time on that one.
It pertains to our noise level, which happens once a week and is over before 10 (which is the daytime noise level cut-off). ?The "noise" can barely be heard from outside the house and the walls separating houses are pretty sound. ?(We live in a TH). ?So dh is looking into city ordinances and options before he talks to the neighbor. ??
If your noise levels are done before the cut-off time then you're not doing anything wrong. Go over and talk to your neighbor in person. His right to quiet enjoyment can also be bought for about $3 in a pair of decent earplugs if he doesn't like your music.

Talk to them....otherwise it's just gonna keep the weirdness going on. (as if it won't anyways)
I'm so curious...what did they complain about?

lol the letter I recieved will be in my blog, it is a valid complaint, but we will be ?continuing... ?
Anyway it is funny ?because the mailman just stuck it in our box because it doesn't have the stamp cancellation (so I made 44 cents!)?

I am now stalking your blog
um, me too. i'm thinking maybe they mailed so they have documentation?
Yeah, I thought about that too, but then they probably would have sent it certified.

Everything else, I've just handled in person.
