Why, Why, Why does my SIL always do this...re Michelle's Bday

We are having a small family get together for Michelle's birthday on 9/12 its a Saturday.  My SIL just informed that we HAVE to change the date since its not good for her.  Ummm excuse me?  I'm not having it on Sunday....thats my birthday and dh & I already have plans for that day.  She's been pulling this same stunt every since M was born.  I really like my SIL and get along great with her but God I hate it when she does this.

  • I would totally say: "i'm sorry that date doesn't work for you-we'll miss you on that day!"

  • I guess she just won't be at the party.  Stand your ground!  Have you actually changed it for her in the past?  She may just expect it now.
  • everyone in the family always changes the date of parties and get togethers to make her happy.  I had to change the date of the baptism for her but only because she's the Godmother.  Oh boy was a feud that was the whole baptism date and where!

I just wish the rest of the family would stop catering to her....life does NOT revolve around her.

  • I agree with amiamish - just say "oh man, what a bummer you can't come!".

Similar issue reversed, my MIL always asks to come and visit us for "just a couple days", so we get it all set up months in advance and then EVERY TIME she emails a couple days before and asks to extend her visit by 1-2 days - so annoying.  I've got to remember this next time so that I'm prepared with an excuse instead of feeling obligated.

  • we are NOT backing down...thats the date...If you can come great if you cant oh well sucks to be you.

  • well- start that family change. When you set a date-that's the date. It's not up for negotiation. period.
  • Honestly, I'm thinking a month and a half is plenty of notice.  If it is that important to her, she can change her other plans.

Thats exactly what I said to dh and he agrees with me!

Ugh my freaking sister is like that.  Last year I actually listened to her and changed it - to Father's Day....  you can imagine what a FIASCO that was.  Don't be a wimp!  Don't back down like I did!!
