Update & Prayers please!

Hi everyone!  I haven't posted much lately but Logan is having his circumcision revision surgery tomorrow morning and I am feeling like I NEED you ladies right now!  The procedure it only supposed to take 30-45 minutes but he still will be under general anesthesia which makes me nervous.  I think the hardest part for me is handing him back over to a hospital after it took us so long to get him out of the NICU!  I know I will be an absolute wreck tomorrow morning!  So, while I am thinking clearly, is there any advice you mamas can give me on keeping it together?  Are there any questions I should ask the urologist or anesthesiologist before they whisk him away?

On a positive note...we went for our presurgery physical and Logan weighs 20 lbs and is in the 24th percentile!  He also is in the 55th for head and 44th for height!  He has been army crawling everywhere and started making ba-ba-ba sounds!  TIA!

  • No advice here but I wanted to say GL to Logan and his awesome mama tomorrow!!!  I am sure it is hard but you are strong and so is Logan and you'll both do great.  Congrats on the stats and milestones as well.

  • Aw man, that stinks :(  Leo had his circ revised when he was about Logan's age. I was a TOTAL wreck before and during the procedure.

My 2 biggest suggestions are: a) ask the doctor if he will put a compression bandage on his little penis after the surgery. IMO, it's better if he does. Also try to find out before the surgery how long the dressing will be on. And b) do what you need to to get Logan to poop before the surgery, even if you need to give him a suppository.

Leo pooped a few hours after his surgery and filled up the dressing, so we had to take the dressing off too soon. His surgery was almost a year ago, and he's still having some issues caused by the swelling that happened after we took the dressing off, and it may require surgical revision.

Good luck!! I promise, this surgery is going to be a LOT harder on you than it will be on your little guy. Even with L's swelling issue, he didn't really seem to notice that anything odd was going on in his diaper.

  • Good luck tomorrow. I cried at Robbie's last surgery.. when I handed him off, it was the hardest thing. I said "take good care of him" and then lost it.

I don't have any real advice because Robbie's sugery was a bunch of other stuff with his circumcision (abdominal surgery) so our experience was a bit difference.
Robbie had to recover in the PICU which sucked. If you can recover in a regular peds room, I'd push for that.

Make sure they use bigger diapers. Robbie was in a 1 at the time, but we used 3s on him so there was no extra pressure on his peen.

  • Hi Big Sister!  I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to let you know that you all are in my prayers. Congrats on the growing!  That's awesome!  Great job Logan on the crawling and talking.  GL tomorrow!!!
  • best of luck tomorrow. you both will do very well!!
  • awesome growth and developmental milestone attainment!  GL with his procedure..not familiar with it so I can't offer any suggestions.  Just try to relax and know the docs know what they are doing and your little man will be fine!
