So, the nurse called first with my AMH (.1) which is horrible. She said that it was even worse than they would expect at 39. She said that it wasn't impossible to conceive, but that I would be put on 'a lot of meds.' Great.
Then within a few minutes she called with the FSH results, which are much better than expected with such a low AMH. It is 10, which she said they consider 'normal,' although not great, of course. She said that it is definitely good news, though.
I've googled and it seems that AMH is the first to decline in 'old age' and is a precurser to FSH rising. It is a new measure, but recent evidence suggests that it is the best predictor of number of eggs that will be retrieved and live births.
So, now I'm in a waiting pattern until the protocol discussion on August 14th and hopefully the start of my cycle! Maybe, just maybe they'll be a BFP in this one last 'old-fashioned' try this cycle!
Anybody else with AMH results??
Re: FSH vs. AMH - My crazy results
Hi, GymDog.
I have no AMH results, but I suspect it would be very horrible considering my FSH. But your FSH sounds promising! If AMH is a precursor to rising FSH, maybe it just means you gotta get a move on?
My fingers are crossed that you get your BFP the old fashioned way, and you can do a Nancy Reagan and just say no to all those drugs that nurse is talking about.
Good luck!
I dont know what my AMH is - not sure if my RE tests for this.
Im sorry that you were disappointed with the AMH - this stuff can be so frustrating. It is VERY Possible that you could get K/U on your own. I really hope that you have that BFP before your Aug 14th apt.
It sounds like we are in the same boat. I'm 38 and my FSH was 11 a year ago and 8 a few months ago (no idea why, but apparently they always go with the higher number). My AMH (if I'm remembering the test name correctly) was 0.3! Again - if I'm remembering it correctly, the closer it is to 1.0 the better. I kind of blocked all of it out and just decided that I was going to throw my faith in science. I went on one of the highest doses of the microdose lupron flare protocol (an aggressive protocol). I think that I ultimately had 5-6 follicles, but only one mature egg. I had the transfer this past Saturday and am now in the 2ww.
If this doesn't work, there's another protocol that I want to ask my RE about (apparently, there's another protocol that is geared for poor responders like me. I'm hoping that it's maybe like when I needed allergy medicine - Claritin didn't work too well for me but Allegra did the trick). Also, my RE does a procedure called Natural IVF. It's based on the idea that your body is geared to produce one good egg each cycle, so instead of taking all the drugs and focusing on producing multiple eggs, they just focus on that one. They've gotten some really good results with it. Go to dominionfertility.com for more info.
The best advice I can give you is to hold on to your hope and believe that one way or another you will get what you want. Make sure you have the best RE in your area and then focus on one step at a time.

i'm sorry to hear about your dissapointing results. i have no experience with AMH either.
my T and P are with you
No AMH results for me, but wanted to say sorry about the poor results. Hopefully, your FSH will be a better indicator of how you respond to the IVF meds. I wonder why the results are so different. Good luck! I hope you get a hail mary BFP this cycle!!
