sunscreen and newborns

Is there a sunscreen that is safe for newborns?  All the ones I have found say 6 months+.

Re: sunscreen and newborns

  • Talk to your pedi if you plan to take your DD out in the sun long enough to use sunscreen. Most will advise against it. When they are that young, they still have a hard time regulating their temperature (notice if she is upset she gets really hot and turns bright red?)...and it's just not a good idea. Plus, their skin is too sensitive for the chemicals in most sunscreens.

  • my pedi said absolutely not before 6months
  • I asked at P's 2 month appt, and our pedi said it was fine as long as I got a brand that I know and not a knock off brand and it was for babies. Other people's pedi's said no. I would call your pediatrician

  • Our pedi said no to sunscreen and bug replelant prior to 6 months.

  • My pedi said no sunscreen until 4 months, and then only if absolutely necessary. He said to try and keep her out of the sun as much as possible. After 6 months it is OK.
  • my ped said keep ds in the shade.  we had to get sun glasses for him too because his eyes are sooo blue and sensitive to the light.
