Will someone please tell me about an EASY birth story?

I'm beyond scared about labor and delivery (this is my first).  Why is it people love telling me how horrible L&D is?  I was in a golf tournament yesterday and one of the men I was paired up with told me how his wife pushed for 9 hours, pooped on the floor, 40 stitches, etc, etc, etc.  I kept trying to change the subject, but it was like he was enjoying the fact that I was getting terrified and kept going on and on.  UGH!!!

Praying for an EASY delivery!

Re: Will someone please tell me about an EASY birth story?

  • People only tell the dramatic stories, especially idiot men. ?Ignore them.

I had a planned c/s and it was awesome. ?We had a big celebratory dinner the night before, showed up at L&D at 8am, rolled into the OR at 11am, had DS at 11:35. ?I felt great, was up walking that night, didn't need prescription pain meds after leaving the hospital. ?It was easy enough that I was eager to do the same thing all over again this soon!?

  • I know these things happen but I would be pissed as hell if my husband ran around telling people that I pooped on the floor or how much it took to stitch up my fanooter.

  • I went in for a routine appt, found out i was in labor, had a C-sec 20 mins later due to baby being breech. Easy as Pie. the recovery..not so much haha. This time, I'll be going for a VBAC. Don't worry so much about the birth!! MILLIONS of women did it before dr's were around and they obviously turned out fine, otherwise we wouldn't be here!
  • Unless you want a natural birth I wouldn't be overly worried. The meds they can give you these days are a hell of a lot better than what was available for our ancestors and they not only did it but many had multiple children. My theory is if it was really truly awful you wouldn't see women on here pregnant with their 2nd, 3rd, etc.
  • Everybody's experience is different, you have to take these stories with a grain of salt.  Besides, you have a long ways to go, no sense in getting yourself wrapped around the axle anticipating what may or may not happen in L&D.

We had a few small bumps in my labor, but it was 8 hours from my water breaking to birth, I made it to nearly 7 cm without an epidural, and I didn't have any recovery problems, not even my first poo post baby.

  • I did not have an easy labor at all, but once it was over, it was over. I had some good drugs during labor so it wasn't all that bad pain wise really. But honestly my recovery was super easy, as soon as they took the catheter (sp?) out I was up and walking, I went home 2 days later and other than being tired felt great. And I know people say- you don't remember it blah blah blah, I DO clearly remember it and I am still ready to do it all again. Don't let people scare you with stupid stories- it won't be a cake walk but it isn't that bad either

  • That guy sucks.

No woman would ever be allowed to push for 9 hours these days. If you haven't delivered by 3 hours of pushing (or earlier, depending on what's going on), that's when the c section talk starts.

Even if you poo while pushing, it won't go on the floor. There are nice plastic-backed surgical sheets they place under your butt that hang down, and there's a plastic pocket at the bottom that the poo and fluids slide right into.

  • I had very easy births for my first two... my water broke and I had my son 3 hours later, no need for meds... second was a couple hours and no need for meds.   It does happen lol

  • LOL at fanooter.  thats great.  thats totally my new word for the day.

I would rather heare funny L&D stories.  I loved that L&D blog....

  • Easy labor for 15 hours, 3 hours of hard pushing, and a beautiful baby afterward. No meds. Labor was great, but no matter how prepared you are, you still fear it a little and you'll have to expect the unexpected. Just go in with the knowledge that you're doing what you were designed to do. Be confident that you are a strong woman. Confidence and humor are the best things to have during labor. And don't worry - it will all be a distant memory once you hold your baby.

  • I had what i think was an easy labor.  I had some contractions the weeks before but nothing really bad, they never hurt.  Water broke at 8am, still contractions never hurt.  About 10 am I could tell they were getting stonger, got an epi by noon and never had any pain up to that point.  Started pushing around 4, this was the hardest part to me, didnt hurt at all, just hard work.  She was born before 5.  So people tease me all the time and say I had her on a day of work 8-5...lol

  • Here's mine:

At about 9:30-10pm, I complained that I was having to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes and that not much was coming out.  (hum, every 5 minutes?  Yeah, that's right, contractions were 5 minutes apart)

Vomited and had a bowl movement and then wanted to take a shower.  Finally, my mom pulled me out of the shower and put some clothes on me.  We got in the car and went to the hospital.  We got there about 11pm.

I refused the wheelchair and walked to the ward.  I remember the nurse being frustrated that I kept stopping during contractions so she took my arm and pulled me along.

When I got in the room, I was checked and was pretty far dialated (I want to say 6cm but I'm not sure.) I couldn't sit still so they didn't put a monitor on.  They filled a tub and I got in and labored for a while.

When the doctor got there, they pulled me out of the tub to check me.  I said I needed to go to the bathroom so I walked across the room to go and it ended up it wasn't he bathroom I needed, my daughter was crowning.

I got back into bed and a few pushes later, she was born.  It was before 2am.  I had a tear which was sewn up quicky without anesthesia...it was all numb anyway.

By  8am I was dressed and ready to leave the hospital.

  • Popping in from second tri to share my easy labor story from my son.

    8:00pm-sat down for dinner
    8:15pm-very first contraction
    10:00pm-headed to the hospital
    10:45pm-arrive at hospital
    11:00pm-triaged and water breaks
    1:15am-baby is born

5 hours from very first contraction to birth. I did not poop on the floor (or the bed), no pain meds, 4 pushes, 9lbs 3oz, no stitches, went home 36 hours later.

  • I was induced for pre-e that turned into HELLP syndrome.  I started cervadil the night before (before my labs came back really bad) and was dilated to 1.5 by 7 am that next morning.  They broke my water and stated pitocin at that time, but I was also on magnesium sulfate to prevent seizures due to the pre-e.  Mag often stops labor, so they had to start the pit again without the mag.  By noon I (2 failed epis later) I was about 4 cm, and Lily was born in 3 pushes at 4:30.  No poop.  Vaccuum assist because she kept destatting during big contractions (her cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times).

Really and truly, it wasn't that bad for me.  It really wasn't.

3/22/09 - Lily Grace, born at 33 weeks, 2 days
    9/12/14 - M/C @ 7 weeks, 1 day (ectopic)

    Me too! LOL.

"Fanooter" ... never heard that one before!

  • Also, on the Birth Stories board, you get real and very detailed accounts about how people just like us did it.  I was a bit overwhelmed by the idea once I got pg, but then I made myself read a bunch of those one night and I felt much better about what I'd be facing.

    your what? LOL

  • Mine was fairly easy.

When in for Appt and found out I was in labor...sent to L&D and about 6 hours later DD was born.

  • The birth of my son was relatively easy from stories of heard.  Prior to actually going into labor I dilated to 3 centi.  Early one morning I woke up in pain (manageable).  At first I did not know for sure I was labor but then I lost mucus plug and when I tried to time my contractions they were less than 2 min. apart.  I got to the hospital and they said was 80% effaced and 6 centi. dilated.  I had epidural and then did not feel anything the rest of the time (some people still feel something).  I was labor for 8 hours and pushed for 1 1/2 hours (average for first time mom).

  • The birth was the easy part.  Pushed three times and he popped out. Getting an on call doctor to stop sending me home because it was the weekend and thus sentencing me to 72 hours of labor on my own sucked.
  • water broke at home at 5:50am

go to the hospital at 730 and was 4cm (was 3cm for weeks)

labored until I hit 7cm around 3pm and got the epi. sat back and i was 9.5cm started pushing and he was born at 4:08pm

labor was a cinch! i too thought it was going to be horrid!

2nd degree tear because he was so big 8lbs12oz...

  • Here's an easy one for you (my second son Jaxon).
10:30 am last dr. appt had an internal and was already 5 cm. Dr. said I'll see you tonight at L&D (wink, wink).  11:30 start to feel contractions but while they do take my focus they are easily managable. 12:30 decide it's time to head to hospital but first to drop son off at Grandmas. Just after 1 reach L&D, talk to nurse until Dr. arrives. Now 10 cm. Push (this is only painful part for me). Jaxon born at 1:54 pm. Minor tear that does not require stitches. Go home next day. Recover for me was much easier without meds.
