hard time drinking water?

For the past two weeks I've been really good about getting fluids. I keep a large nalgene bottle next to me and fill it up with water about 4 times during the day.

However, I've been feeling queasy today, and thought of drinking a bunch of water makes my stomach turn. I know, it's strange. I've been drinking some fruit juice and ginger ale, but ... all of that is really sugary. Is that bad? Should I just make myself drink the water?

Re: hard time drinking water?

  • I had the same exact issue and putting a lemon or two worked wonders and actually helped my tummy. Try it!

  • Drink and eat whatever you can keep in your system. Of course, stuff like sushi and deli meats you should stay away from. But, if you are nauseated by certain things, don't eat them. No point making yourself sick and not keeping anything down.

  • country time lemonade has been getting me through since water is ewww at this point. GL! :)
  • In some women water actually does make their m/s worse.  My doctor told me to just drink whatever fluids that I can.  I have been drinking sprite for the last week.  Although I hate it, it's not so bad right now and I can actually keep it down!
  • I'm the same way. I've had to just drink gatorade, lemonade, and just not worry about the sugar. Water would definitely gag me, and vomiting it right back up just defeats the purpose. ;)
  • I fell the same way. I used to love the taste of water but now it makes my stomach turn. I try to drink one glass of plain water then a glass of lemonade, gatorade, etc., then another glass of water, and so on. Plain water is probably best, but if you can't drink it, you should drink something else so you don't get dehydrated.
  • I had a tough time drinking water for a few weeks, too. ?I found that if it was icy cold it helped, but otherwise, I just drank whatever fluids sounded okay. ?Lots of Gatorade and lemonade. ?Just do what you can, but don't make yourself sick drinking water.

  • I don't really have morning sickness yet, there are just certain things that make my stomach feel icky, and water happens to be one of them. It's so strange.

I seem to be gravitating towards sweet foods. I'm avoiding salty things (especially meat) like the plague.

I like your water / sugary drink trade-off. I just had some fruit juice and that seemed to make my queasiness go away. Maybe I'll try to drink some water, and then go back to juice.

  • Water is a huge trigger for my morning sickness right now. I used to love water and now just the thought of it makes me Ick!

I've been just trying to drink lots of other things...lemonade, poweraide, etc.

I hope it lessens though because I can definitely tell a difference in my skin, etc. I need my water!

  • Only if it is warm. Ice cold water with lemon seems to ease the m/s for me.

  • Try to drink some water... but overall just try and stay hydrated.  If all you can drink is juice... then so be it.

Try what PP said about adding lemon.  Also - teas count for your water intake too.

     Hope you feel better soon.

  • Eating fruit also counts as part of your water intake - watermelon, peaches, grapes, etc. Plus your getting vitamins and FIBER!

I've been having a hard time with water as well - one of my friends gave me a tip to put a bottle in the freezer and let it get ice flakes in it, then shake it. Ice Slushy...lol! It's so much easier to drink that way.

You can also dilute you juice with some water to lower the calories and sugar!
  • I stocked up on country time lemonade and pink lemonade.  I've also been eating a ton of watermelon to help get fluids in too!

  • I had the same problem and I found that bottled water did not do that to my stomach, but tap water did. I think that I will have to invest in one of those Brita water filters (or whatever their called)  if I want to get my daily recommended amount of water.
  • try drinking lemonade instead. I did this last pregnancy, keeps you hydrated and the sourness helps nausea!

Ditto on the lemon. I havent felt nauseous yet but I just cant get the water down lately. I'm so sick of the taste.

Have you tried Vitamin Water? Granted it has some sugar in it but it will break up the boring water routine a little?

  • I am in the same boat -- Nalgene bottle on my desk at work and everything.  I told my doctor yesterday that water was gross and she nodded sympathetically.  She said to drink whatever you can get down -- which for me is sparkling water with a splash of juice, or the variety of diet caffeine free sodas which I've purchased.  Diet Canada Dry ginger ale is my current favorite.

I figure I'll be back to my water drinking ways in a few weeks -- but I am going with the flow in the meantime.  I am with you!
