Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Ferber is a motha effing genius!

Night 1 went okay... I had been using a modified version of Ferber's method for a while now, but was goofing it up by letting her have the binky at night... GAH!!! So when she woke up and wanted her bink - 2 TIMES - last night we did the cio ferber method and it worked.  It took forever, but it worked.

Day 1: First nap with no no binky = easy breezy beautiful cover girl... lol!  She went down in less than a minute.

So here's my rec.  If you have a 3 month old and are having sleeping issues, go out and buy this book so you can understand what you will be up against and will be ready to implement.  Definitely use your better judgement, but my baby would have been ready for this around 4 months.. but I am okay with the fact that we waited till 5 months.

Thanks to everyone who gave the rec yesterday morning!!!

  • awesome, we are doing it this weekend
  • Awww yay!!  I'm glad it went well!  Stick with it!  I found day 3 to be the worst for some reason.  But staying with the plan is crucial.  It took a while but doing a modified version def makes it easier.

  • Just curious, did you do Ferber cuz she wasn't STTN or were you trying to wean her off the binky?  I have been debating on getting rid of Kelsey's binky and I just don't know when I should start or if I should just let it go another couple of months.  Teagan never took a binky so this is totally new grounds for me.

  • So are you done with the pacifier completely?

We were doing a modified version a couple of weeks ago... She is like the boy he talks about that can put himself to sleep by himself, in his crib.. but has to have a binky. THANKFULLY, he said that the hardest part was over for us since we had already broken her of the nursing / rocking to sleep.

  • I'm glad it worked for you and you weren't scared to do CIO.  We've never had sleeping issues - LO actually PREFERS to be put in his crib so he can do his thang and fall asleep (so weird, but I'm grateful), but unfortunately, his "thang" includes thumb sucking, which I'm not a fan of.  Oh well.  I would have preferred he took a pacifier since I can clean that and God only knows what he is sucking off his thumb, but alas, the thumb wins.  Glad you have  a good sleeping baby sans any sucking item!  Congrats!

She wasn't STTN.. but I don't care about getting up 1 or 2 times.. it wsa the 8, 9 times to put the binky back.. and if we didn't get there fast enough she was UP. and then it would take so long to get her back down... it was keeeeeling me.

no, I don't have a problem with giving her one for car rides or at restaurants... I just cannot subject myself to the torture that is putting it back in her mouth a fabillion times a night.

    lolololololololol

    You're lucky, he's a dude.

  • We got this book a few weeks ago, I haven't read too much into yet but I am glad to hear it works. We have been putting her down awake at night the past couple nights and she falls asleep within 5 min and will sleep for 6 hours, up to eat and back down for 3-4. So its definitely progress, but I need to read more into the book to help with STTN.

So glad to hear it works!  I am on chapter 5 right now and planning to start CIO tomorrow.  I also was so relieved when I realized that the book talked about our problems exactly...nursing to sleep...Hopefully we have the same success you've had!
