Adoption

name your resource

I would like to educate myself a little on adoption before jumping in..On the process and the things necessary in your home and for a home study (generally)..can you share the book or resource you used? helpful? or a waste of time?

(My family is familiar with adoption...my sister adopted her daughter... several years ago so I would like to have a more up-to-date guide)

thanks ladies..

Re: name your resource

  • Adoption for Dummies and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Adoption are good starting points. As far as exact requirements, you would want to ask the agency as every state/county has slightly different requirements. Our agency gave us a checklist which was very helpful in making sure we could meet the safety standards, etc.

  • To be honest, our agency was our resource/guide for preparing. We read a few books on adoption in general, but for the specifics about our home study process, etc we've relied on our agency and SW's.

Here is a list of books that have been suggested on this board:

If anyone suggests others, I will try to add them to this spreadsheet for future sharing.
