Success after IF

Did anybody put back one embie?

We'll be starting IVF #1 to have #2 soon, and are debating wheter to put back 1 or 2.  Obviously it will depend on how the embies do, but I wanted to see if there were any sucess stories putting one back (or cautionary tales againt it.)  We'll most likely do 2, but are tempted by putting back only one.....

Re: Did anybody put back one embie?

  • We only put one back because after losing our twins our doctors strongly advised against me ever carrying multiples again. Our first try was a FET and failed, but it was a terrible quality embryo (3 day, 7 cell, never should have been frozen in the first place). The second time we transferred a fresh blast on day 5 and were successful.

  • I did - I only had one to put back ;) I actually read some reports on studies that showed single embryo transfers had just about the same rate of pregnancy (but way less instances of multiples, obviously).

FET Dec 2012: BFP! Praying this one sticks for the long haul!
  • Me! My first IVF cycle resulted in my daughter (we did a single embryo transfer - it was a very good quality and we only had 2 embies anyways).

We just did a FET today as well with our last embie  since we are TTC #2(not as great quality - it was only 5 cell but I'm still hoping it will stick).

We did one based on RE's recommendation (my age, quality of embies, etc).  I feel much more comfortable putting back 1 versus 2 at this point based on my situation.

We put back one and were successful. My clinic has a pretty high success rate with single embryo transfers, and they gave us only slightly lower odds of success for putting back one as opposed to two. Since we were doing shared risk there was no real financial downside, so we decided to be conservative and transfer only one the first time.

I am so happy with the decision now, but I know there would definitely have been some regret if the IVF had failed.

FWIW, I am 31 and we were dealing with MFI, and we had 3 equally good quality blastocysts.

After 7 failed IUIs, IVF w/ ICSI worked!!

I am thankful every day for my miracle after infertility.

And thrilled to be pregnant again after FET!
