TTC after 35

Hi . . . & Sonohystergram

Hi, everyone!  I'm just catching up on all the posts since returning from our beach vacation.  It was great!  Of course AF came and went while we were there, which was inconvenient, not only because it is AF at the beach (!), but also because I had to find a lab and get the Day 3 FSH draw while there.  The doctor's order had been written on a Quest order sheet, but the only lab was Labcorp.  The tech said it would be fine, but this morning the RE was pessimistic that they would actually receive the results.  (Not happy to hear that!)

So, on my first morning back I headed to the RE for the Sonohystergram (sp?).  This is a saline ultrasound (dildo cam!) of my uterine.  Luckily I don't have to have the full blown HSG, since I have had a BFP and the RE thinks the tubes are clear.  Luckily, so is my uterus!  It was uncomfortable, but not horrible.  I can imagine that the HSG would be bad though!  That water pressure is not fun.

They still don't have my blood results from July 9th, despite getting DH's within a few days.  I'm hoping they show up soon.  I also had to do some arm twisting to get an appointment for an IVF consult before my next cycle.  The doctor was booked and his assistant was not very helpful and not concerned that I was going to be pushed back yet another cycle (and after getting a blood draw at the beach!  No way!).  I asked her to call in the IVF nurse and she scheduled the IVF consult on what is predicted to be my Day 1.  This means we will skip the consult in between and will be cutting it close should I get AF early.

If I can get through the admin nightmares of schedules and tests results, I might be able to stress about actually having a baby!

Good to be back and hope you all are doing well!

  • Hi Fran! Welcome back! Sounds like getting your bw done was a hassle & a half! I hope it all comes back clear!

I am curious though, if you don't mind me asking, and you may have mentioned it, but why are you moving to IVF so fast? Sorry if that is too personal :)

  • Not at all.  I have several reasons for doing IVF without IUI or anything else first.  Right now I have really great insurance that will cover almost all the cost of IVF, but I'm not sure what is going to happen to my insurance next year.  I work in the financial sector, so I want to be sure to take advantage of this insurance before the end of the year, should I lose it next year.  Our company is in a bit of uncertainty, so I'm not 100% sure I will have a job and certainly not sure the benefits won't be revamped.

Also, I know that we definitely want to have more than 1 child.  Since it is starting to look like it could be an egg issue (by process of elimination and since I have had one high FSH test), I would like the option to 'freeze' additional embryos if possible.  Of course, with IUI, I would be thrilled to get pregnant, but that would then put me one year older, trying to do this again.  Also, I would like to do genetic testing on the eggs (because of the high FSH), which we couldn't do with anything but IVF.

The doctor actually suggested it before I brought it up.  His reason was my age (40 in October).  He said we have better chances with IVF and he would rather not watch me get older, cycle after cycle, with less potentially successful means.  I know that's a bit controversial and hard to hear, but I'm OK with that.  I don't really see any advantage to going through IUI or meds if I can move ahead more quickly with IVF.

  • WB!

Nothing to say really except I'm glad to hear all of your news and hope you're able to move forward as quickly as possible.  And you know I've got my fingers and toes crossed for you!  Hopefully this time next year I will be in Atlanta (taking the GA bar), and we'll be seeing each other's babies for the first time. :)  That's my dream.

  • Welcome back & good luck with everything!

  • Welcome back and good luck with everything.  Hope your IVF #1 is it for you.
  • Glad you're back! I hope the timing works out for you and you can get moving on the whole process right away.  Good luck!
  • Hi Fran, Welcome back. I just got back myself. My RE wants to move right to IVF because of the morphology issues. I also have very good IVF benefits and I think I'm getting a little more on board with it myself but am waiting to see the RE on 8/7.

Where was vacation? Sorry AF showed up then. I hate having AF on vacation. She should know to stay away.

Welcome back, Fran. Sorry you have to deal with frustrating administrative issues. That definitely adds stress to an already stressful situation. I hope you are able get your IVF cycle underway soon. Good luck!

  • Thanks, everyone!  We went to Gulf Shores, AL.  Not fancy, but a good vacation with extended family.

Today I got my FSH/AMH results, which I posted above.
