Tell me about Follistim and/or B2B IUIs

I start Follistim tomorrow (no more Clomid, yay!!).  I'm just wondering what your s/e were/are.  Are they comparable to Clomid?  Feel better?  Worse?

Also... I am thinking about doing B2B IUIs this cycle because this is my last month of summer vacation and I think we should be as aggressive as possible.  What do you know about the pros/cons to doing B2B IUIs??  We are OOP on IUIs, so it will cost around $500 for two of them.

TIA!!

Re: Tell me about Follistim and/or B2B IUIs

  • Follistim was completely different for me than Clomid.  I was less moody on Follistim and I didn't have hot flashes like I did on Clomid.  However, Follistim made me exhausted and very very very bloated.  I would go to sleep at 9:30-10 p.m. every night after the shot when on a regular night I'm usually up until midnight.  The bloating was very unconfortable for me too and no matter how much water I drank it would not go away.  Follistim didn't interfere with my estrogen (while Clomid did) and as a result I have better lining this cycle.

There are mixed research studies on B2B vs 1 IUI.  If money is an issue, I would just go with one IUI if you have no MIF and BD the next day.

  • I am in the midst of a Clomid/Follistim and B2B IUI right now. I just had the first IUI done and the second will be tomorrow. So far - great results! I think I stimmed for a total of 6 nights and have one 22mm follie to O today.

My biggest side effect was mild morning nausea and it wasn't every day.

  • I finished my first Foillistim cycle at the beginning of July.  It had a postive impact during my cycle i.e. the best EWCM I have ever had.  It did make me sleepy and I would always take a nap in the early evening.  I ended up with some good follies. HTH

  • I did not have any side effects with the follistim.  I was on clomid for 6 cycles and I had every bad side effect that you can imagine!  So going to follistim was such a relief.  I actually produced mature follies and had great EWCM.  Like the pp the best I have had in a while!  My office doesn't do B2B IUI so I don't have any advice on that.  Good Luck!!

  • I'm on Follistim now for IUI#1, and so far so good.  I little tired, a little bloated, and have had a couple of dizzy spells...although I'm not sure if that's the Follistim's fault.

I asked my RE about B2B IUI's, and he said he doesn't do them because there is no evidence that shows it produces better success rates.

  • omg i was so thankful when they switched me to follistim.  comparatively it's a cakewalk.  i had horrible s/e on clomid.  i get mildly weepy, bloating, and sometimes fatigue with the follistim, but doesn't compare at all to the raging anger, hysterics, migraines, flashes, etc. . . on clomid!
