Hello ladies,
I am going to be registering soon and need some help regarding breastfeeding. This is my first baby and none of my friends breast fed.
What items are must haves?
I know I need a pump and bottles but I am clueless and feeling overwhelmed!
TIA!!
Re: From 2nd tri
I couldn't have made it through the first couple of weeks without my My Brest Friend nursing pillow. It has a dumb name, but it was perfect for helping me position DS for feedings. (When he was little, I did have to put a couple of towels under the pillow to bring him up to the right height.) I also have a Boppy, but I find that more useful for other people who are just holding him. I find the Boppy to be too soft for positioning him for nursing.
I'd also be sure to have some Laninsoh lanolin on hand, but you don't necessarily have to register for that. (It's less than $10.) My favorite breastfeeding books are Breastfeeding Made Simple and The Nursing Mother's Companion. I'm not sure if BRU carries them, but they are worth buying if you can't register for them.
Oh, and if you do get a My Brest Friend, buy yourself some extra covers. I don't think that they are carried in most stores, so you probably can't register for them. (You can get them online. I know that Amazon carries them.) Perhaps I just sucked at diapering early on, but I needed a spare cover at least once or twice per week early on because the cover would get either poop or spit up on it. The covers are machine-washable but have to hang to dry, so it's out of commission for about a day when it gets dirty.
My must haves were:
a Boppy, double electric pump w/ bottles to pump into, Lansinoh milk storage bags, lanolin, tylenol, some good nursing tanks and bras, reference books (So that's what they're there for and The Nursing Mother's Companion), a sound machine with ocean noise (sounds crazy, but it helped us both relax), lots of grab and go meals and snacks on hand, a big water bottle to have close by when nursing. I bought a lot of nusring pads but really never leaked much. I love my nursing cover up now, but never used it in the begining when I was just getting started.
I can't really think of anything else. Having patience and support is always a bonus! Good luck!
