How my 3 yr old talks to me....

Lately Caleb has really been talking back to me. When he gets mad he tells me, "Momma, you are not my friend so go away from me." He says this all the time! It's starting to really bother me. I have tried to explain numerous times that is not nice, blah, blah, blah, all that and he just continues.

Well, yesterday he was in one of his moods and we had just left the Taco Bell line (it just opened in Forney!!) and he wanted his cheese roll. I told him his hands were not clean and we would be home soon. He says, "Momma, does it have plastic on it?! I think it does so I don't need clean hands" in a real snotty tone. Then proceeds to tell me I am not his friend.

I know this is normal 3 year old behavior, but OMG! This is all.the.time! He already thinks he knows better than I do and he's only 3! Anyway, vent over, thanks for listening.

  • And this is why I want DD to stay a baby....so she can't break my heart with this kind of stuff.

That would be frustrating, I am sorry :(

    "This too shall pass" *HUG*

  • I'm sorry!  I totally feel your pain.  My 4 year old talks to me like that ALL the time.  It drives me batty.  I thought for sure this was stuff that waited until he was at least 7 or so, but nope.  GL and if you find what works, let me know.
  • I can't even imagine how heart-breaking that must be.

    I must babble....

I used to watch the reruns of the tv show "7th Heaven" daily.  In one episode, Annie, (the mom), pisses off Ruthie, (her youngest daughter), and Ruthie tells her, she "hates" her.  The whole show, Annie is super upset/devastated.  Everytime I saw that episode, I'd think, "Oh, Jeez.  That's normal, why get so upset about it.  All kids say that around that age (I think she was around 4?) to their parents at one time or another. I know I did.  We don't really mean it. DUH"

Now that I have DS, I realize that I'm going to bawl my eyes out if/when those words ever come at me.

  • I'm sorry you are dealing with this.  I agree, it will pass but it sure stinks while it's still happening.  Just stand your ground and continue to state your feelings on his choice phrases/words.  My son did the 'I hate you' phrase when he was 3-4 and it's a pain you don't want to feel, that's for sure.  He also used to tell me to go to my room.  I have no idea where he even picked up some of his phrases but I would have to constantly remind him that I was the mommy and that talking to me like that was not allowed.
  • I am so dreading these days.  I expect to get them much sooner than 3 though, DD already has major attitude.

I know he will say that one day and I can't imagine what I would do.
